Toting up the list given in that second site I get:
3+3+3+5+4+5+2+4+4+6+3+4+1+1+4 = 52
However, as I said before, some of these are variants of others - e.g. more than one Ford Fiesta, more than one Scooby, etc.
I got my copy and had a quick go a couple of days ago. Quite unimpressed until I realised that the default (ham fisted) level had auto-breaking enabled. Once I switched that off I was duly flabbergasted - it's a lot more tricky than Dirt2, and there's now an unignorable difference in handling/"feel"/etc between the different surfaces. Oh, and third time out I managed to total a Punto with a reported impact deceleration (?) of 13.5G, which impressed the heck out of me.
Found a bug though - was playing the quick race option in Kenya and managed to get my Punto stuck on a tree - couldn't go forward (obviously) nor get out by putting in reverse neither.
Think the Codies have done a good job (from what I've seen so far) with a panoramic variety of skills catered for from the hardcore near-sim addict to kids barely able to hold the controller (with auto-steer, auto-brake, etc).
The difficulty seems to be a bit variable to me. Some tracks I can spend half an hour trying to get the gold (requiring a virtually flawless drive) and others I can win by several seconds even with screwing a few corners up.
I have to agree though - they've done a good job at making it accessible and challenging at the same time.
