When you go on the general idea that you get what you pay for, it is unsurprising that the £800 i7 990x chip tops every chart(pretty much). I think for a fairly modest £200, the FX8150 does extremely well to almost keep up with its far more expensive rivals.

It seems Guru3d have some fx-4100 benches up and it performs very closely to the A8-3850. With the reasonable GPU included with the A8 I can't see any reason to buy the fx-4100.
In productivity applications it seems to vary in speed from being ahead of the A8-3850 to being nearer the A6-3650. Not so good TBH!!

However, I don't see any gaming test comparisons with an A8-3850. However,in the gaming tests the £95 FX4100 seems to between 3% to 10% slower clock for clock when compared to the £132 Phenom II X4 980 when you consider the Turbo Core states.

This means it will probably be around the same speed as the £97 Phenom II X4 965 for gaming but at a lower 95W TDP. If it can overclock a decent amount then it might not be too bad but is not brilliant.

However,if AMD releases the A8-3870K then the FX4100 is going to sink like a lead balloon.

If the rival was the 990X you'd be right. But it's the fact it's often resoundingly beaten by a rival that only costs £160 that makes it not 'do extremely well'.

Can I be an arse and ask for the stats against the i7 920? Curious to see where my CPU stacks up in all this...

for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

Massive dissappointment, I was hoping to see AMD competea again. The i7 2600k is ~£220 and eats this alive. I can only assume AMD chipset is much much cheaper? Else it's a total lemon...

The weaker exchange rate now means the i7 2600K is around £239 to £252. The OEM version is around £233 from Scan. The non-K Core i7 2600 is around £232 to £235.

Re: Reviews - AMD FX-8150 at 4.7GHz. Does it stand tall?

I dont think AMD have much to worry about, they are obviously in a worse position than they could have been (kicking intels ass by 50% performance EVERYWHERE ) but this is a completely new design for them and it has LOADS of room for improvement, look what AMD has done with previous designs they have improved them crap loads and this is at the beginning again and it really is suited for the future which is unfortunate in a way as it means it does terrible now.

But i also think they have a bit of time to sort this out, im told that one of Intels next major chips is delayed massively, a family friend who used to work with my dad went to work with intel last year and has just been moved for 2 years to help speed up the progress of a chip for next year as its had issues. As my dad doesnt follow the cpu area much so he didnt take many details (it could be SB-E or ivybridge but somethings had problems thats a given). This could give AMD the time to improve their design loads.

Ive just gone with a SB build so i will be sitting this out for a good few years now, however i do hope AMD get back on top or on par at least (like AMD and Nvidia are currently) as it will be nice to have cheaper chips all round

Hexus guys - Could you add overclocked 2500k or 2600k figures to your charts. It would be interesting to see an apples to apples comparison where both are overclocked to 'should be achievable for everyone' figures

    Thanks muchly if you can

4.5-4.8 should be achievable for SB, in which case, BD is even further behind.
