You can use it in portrait mode, but this entails unscrewing the stand to do so- either or- but not both.

The Sharp PN-K321 is also a fabulous jawdropping monitor, great for gaming and editing (//versus.com/en/sharp-pn-k321-vs-asus-pq321q), but like this excellent article states, the Asus just has a few more perks. A bigger screen, stereo speakers and more colour range makes it something your eyes would chose over the sharp easily. It is just the price point that bugs me even on amazon with you saving 176 dollars off it still is priced at 3,322.90 (amazon.com/ASUS-PQ321Q-31-5-Inch-4K-Monitor/dp/B00DJ4BIKA) Any artist/gamer knows that that is not the easiest money to throw down. But it is one fine monitor there is no doubt about it.
A 4k monitor makes a lot more sense right now over a TV since the content is already there. I'm sure there are some games (HoMM3 HD supports 4k x 4k) out there that can use it but monitors this size are usually aimed at a niche market. I've had a Dell 3008 (30") for years and I would consider upgrading to 4k just so I can get finer detail when working on large data sets, diagrams and spreadsheets for work. Assuming my aging eyes can still focus well enough that is. It's probably more useful for professional work than games at the moment but the benefits are certainly immediate.
