That's certainly true for the systems as tested in this review but it probably doesn't give a representative view of a serious gamer's experience with a high-end graphics card.
Imagine how well (or poorly) the GTX750Ti in a typical Pentium 4 system would perform!
My HD3850 AGP card virtually doubled in performance when I switched it from a P4 3.06GHz machine to a Core2Duo 2.4Ghz (both with 2GB DDR400 RAM), but it was pretty much maxed out at that.
You really need to match components in order to optimise and benefit from their respective strengths.

According to tests I've read the G3220 and Q6600 though being quite different, trade punches equally and the real benefits of the newer system is the support for newer/faster memory etc.
Couldn't get a new Q6600 for £42 back in the day and they often fetch more than that second-hand.
Shows how things have moved on though, when what was the 'best-of-the-best' is now only equivalent to one of the cheapest, most basic models!

    I've got a G3420 which is 3.2GHz and supports 1600MHz RAM.
I bought it with the plan to upgrade to i5 haswell when i need to but for now it does the job.
Yet to find a game that lags on it, CoD, BF3,4, skyrim, CS:GO, Crysis 3.
Running it with B85 board, GTX660 2GB and 8GB of ballistix ram.

Definitely would recommend if you're building on budget as you can always upgrade the CPU at a later date, especially when Haswell refresh CPU's are released.

..was my first choice for htpc build but then decided to go with 4130T 35w- vs 54 so now i run gemini m4 cooler on it at 800rpm thats <10db with up to 35 celsius when watching hd video or bluray.
The 64bit MPC-HC is much faster and its valid for the codecs ( LAV quicksync ).
