I'd say it's worth it if you're coming from an older card, which I am.

Was waiting for the release to drive down 780Ti prices so I could get one of those, but given that the fancy 780Tis are more expensive than the 980, I'll probably go with the newer card.

    Hm, this is interesting:
    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...l,3941-11.html
Seems what while 176W is the average of their 980, there is a lot variation due to Boost 3.0:
"To illustrate, let’s take a look at how Maxwell behaves in the space of just 1 ms. Its power consumption jumps up and down repeatedly within this time frame, hitting a minimum of 100 W and a maximum of 290 W. Even though the average power consumption is only 176 W, the GPU draws almost 300 W when it's necessary. Above that, the GPU slows down."

Guess, with that kind of variation there is a reason for going overboard with power supplies.

Kudos to Tom's for doing those kind of measurements. Next question is of course, do other card behave like this and are Tom's going re-measure them all?

    Hence the "a bit", haha.

When I checked Scan's site, every card bar two 980s said "pre-order". Now I've looked again after getting home and there's a fair few 970s joined the fold too. Didn't know if this was a rushed launch on nVidia's part to get the hype going before a Monday launch and/or distributors had missed the date, but looks like inventory is filling up now. Huzzah!

    Interesting that.

Tarinder, any chance of some updated benchmarks using the latest drivers?

I very much doubt nVidia will be thinking about releasing a Ti version until AMD have something that might compete with the current 980, but I do think that nVidia are holding on to their big guns so that they can produce a response when they need to and not until then,

Unlikely Nvidia is holding back on mass production ready GM200/GM210 GPUs,as the Quadro and Tesla cards containing the GM200/GM210 will be released as quickly as possible, especially with increased competition from both AMD and Intel in the area. ATM,there is no glimpse of them anywhere.

GK110 based compute cards were released months before Geforce Titan was available to special customers like ORNL.
