Try to research on Topre before bashing on the price.
There's much better quality one out there before CM Novatouch, but they're even less appealing due to very little and expensive custom keycaps (not Cherry MX compatible), also their features is much worst than Novatouch, not even a single media keys, just the simplest keyboard. But beside all that, it's purely made in Japan and the quality is top notch. There's HHKB and Realforce (Full size 104-key available) for the masses.
And don't compare Topre to Cherry MX switches, they're on a whole different class. Rubber dome, at its best! Lastly, Topre aim is for typist, not gaming.

Yeah, to me, that reads very much like "tallest dwarf".

I find backlighting more useful in general usage, than gaming.
My PC also functions as my home cinema, so dim the lights and sit back... The backlight also extends to the media controls, which is where that part comes in use.

I watch the keys when I type, not the screen, so seeing the keys clearly is essential for me.
I also find the backlighting aids clarity in bright light as well as low light conditions. I have 3 profiles with different colours as well, further aiding visibility.
The crappy HP basic board I have at work suffers from glare quite a bit, whereas my backlit one does not.

Tbh never thought of it adding clarity. It may end up being a necessity as my arms shorten.
