Re: Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 featuring AMD Ryzen 9 4900HS

Been waiting on a review for a laptop with an AMD 4xxx mobile chip.

Looks positive in all honesty (ignoring case issues, which is not down to AMD) and personally I see no webcam as a plus

No webcam seems an odd one, although I suspect gamers don't really use them as its all about the Twitch these days..

I personally prefer to cover them up. Just put a slider on if you want privacy. I can't see how the BOM was reduced significantly without a webcam and the potential lost market is huge.

Given that the quality of built-in webcams is usually pretty dire...Most people who use a webcam a lot, usually get a better quality external one. I can't see it being a deal-breaker.

It would also help if Hexus did a value comparison. i.e. a table with the current prices of all the laptops in the review.

Look at some other reviews, integrated graphics performance is up by nearly 70% over the previous generations, despite it also being Vega and having 8CUs instead of 11CUs.

Ill take a user laptop, not something to game on, so a lot cheaper too i assume.
Really don't want to spend more than 6-700 USD on something like that.

This CPU looks incredibly impressive IMO, especially so given mobile performance/power was an area Intel were still holding on to the lead. But it looks like they're now handily beat in both outright performance and battery life. How the competitive landscape has changed over the past few years, eh?

Re: Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 featuring AMD Ryzen 9 4900HS

It'll be interesting to see how the ASUS G15 turns out - slightly larger chasis (better airflow?) - and twin M.2 NVME slots inside.

Also hoping to see an Ryzen 4800 / 4900-powered device in something similar to the Surface Pro form factor (maybe a variant with a larger 15" 17" screen.

Re: Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 featuring AMD Ryzen 9 4900HS

I'm thinking a desktop version in something like the Asrock A300 would make an awesome pocket workstation.

I kind of switch off as soon as a PC has a screen and keyboard permanently bolted on it.

Re: Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 featuring AMD Ryzen 9 4900HS

I agree I'm keen to see what the desktop versions are like, but I understand AMD are concentrating on the mobile market first with this silicon. Given it's an 8 core die, in theory it should be competitive with desktop parts but with the advantage of a competent IGP on-die.

Having said that, the likes of the 3700X set a sort of lower-bound for the price so I expect we'll see the desktop APUs move up a notch in pricing assuming they're fully enabled.

Nice laptop, shame about the price. Works out at just a touch over £1400 in the US including tax but almost an extra £400 over here.
