how much point is there in reviewing these things when I've got better odds of getting a unicorn for my daughter than finding a graphics card in stock at anywhere even vaguely near RRP?
Why isnt price under 'the bad' section? Its a terrible card even at RRP.
<10% more performance than the 3080FE but lets just assume £1000 RRP (being VERY generous) 42.5% more cost for less than 10% improvement and 15% more power!
I managed to get a 3080FE from scan yesterday morning so I am now of the strong opinion that yes they are obtainable but not straight away (stock is improving) and requires to be involved in waiting for drops but thats not really any different from when these cards will finally be available on scan etc as they will only get a couple.
Glad I can go back to the sidelines to just observing the graphics card reviews rather than actually needing to know if its worth buying, only got the 3080 to improve oculus link performance and VR games in general compared to my aging vega. Hopefully this is where RDNA3 improves next time (their encoder) to make them back to being a solid option in the next few years again when I inevitably upgrade again for better VR haha.
There's always a market for such products, though, especially in these times. Many people - the target audience - think nothing of dropping £1,500 on a card that, as you say, is only marginally faster than one with a recommended retail price barely half as much.
So yes, the value argument here is poor, but the ones buying it don't seem to care too much.
What the heck is it with marketing people and names, these days? I mean, Suprim? Really? Did your three year old come up with that, or is the marketing team sub-par in the spelling department? Ever heard of spellcheckers? Even my phone's autocorrect (right royal nuisance that it is) does better than that.
/okay, rant over. I feel better for that. Then I saw the cost.
A lesson learned from PeterB about dignity in adversity, so Peter, In Memorium, "Onwards and Upwards".
I guess I'm one of those, I got the 3090 FE which isn't really much faster than the 3080 FE, yet carries quite a premium. I was upgrading from the 2080 FE which was noisy under load, the 3090 FE plays well with noise levels and the power use was a moot point as I cap my frame rate at 100. I just wanted a card that could do what I'd like it to do (including with ray tracing games), so the price issue was also fairly moot.
On the plus side I sold my 2 year old 2080 FE for almost the same price as I paid for it, so the cost was offset to an extent.
