Re: Asus GeForce RTX 3080 Ti TUF Gaming

    Dear Hexus,

I'm very disappointed to see that my Vega64 isn't on the charts for comparison. I fail to see how such a quality card that was so relevant when it came out and is still potent is not on the charts so I can see if anything new is a worthy upgr...

Never mind, there's only so much trolling I can keep up.

These things aren't worth a penny over £800,none of them, given the relative performance to the vanilla '80's

So the idea of spending double that, is just plain nauseating.

That is what they are worth to you (and me). Evidently there are enough people who are willing to pay double that they can price it like that.

Re: Asus GeForce RTX 3080 Ti TUF Gaming

Another GeForce RTX 3080 Ti review for a card that you cannot readily buy.
    Most accurate review yet.

...albeit with inevitable price premiums over supposed RRPs.
I think that the current generation are overpriced at RRP, never mind the frankly obscene prices they've been hitting over the last year. Unless there's a major price drop, at the point I'm just going to sit on my GTX980Ti and wait for the next generation.

Admittedly, there's not many AAA games I'd be buying right now anyway since I'm boycotting Ubisoft and Activision over their culture of abuse, and Blizzard over the Blitzchung mess.

Re: Asus GeForce RTX 3080 Ti TUF Gaming

With some of these games at 1440p with all on, I get just as good or better FPS scores than some of the other cards there on a 1080ti

I wonder why they still keep the 5700xt in there and not another giant like the 1080ti to see what it does in difference compared to the 30XX series.

"Pricing, however, remains a painful issue. Unless Asus can really whittle the retail cost down to supposed RRP levels of around £1,200 "
Is £1200 supposed to be a realistic price for a graphics card? And it isn't even top-of-the-range. Get a grip Nexus, and call out rampant rip-offs.

Then I think it's safe to say the 3080ti is not aimed at you You should be able to pick up a second hand 1060/1660 or AMD580 quite cheaply.

A GTX1660 costs at least£300 secondhand on Ebay now,and the other two won't have many years of driver support/optimisations yet I suspect, and are still £200~£300 secondhand!

I think the 1060 will be supported for some time yet - they're still manufacturing 1050tis. Ridiculous if they go for £300 second hand though - that's substantially more than I bought mine for when they first came out! I think the price will drop when supply of midrange cards starts to improve and people move on to the 3060 etc.

Why it might be a thing to sell it on and get an upgrade, especially if you can get an RTX3060TI or even an RTX3060/RX6600/RX6600XT at RRP.

True but they don't perform well enough for me. Faster cards exist but take too much power and still don't have enough longevity in my view. A theoretical 3070 Super with 16GB would be a baseline, but unless they find some trick with the fabbing to get power draw down (I'd love the mobile 3080 in desktop form!) I'll be waiting a couple of years and looking at RDNA3/40 series.

I think sometimes doing smaller steps can be more cost effective if you time it right. My mate for example got an RX5700XT for around £330 at launch(slight misprice),then when the RTX3060TI launched, sold it for more than they paid for it(essentially got their money back). Then they got an RTX3060TI in December for £420. So for less than a £100,they got 25% extra performance,RT,and a bit less power draw too.

    Edit!!

    This doesn't look very promising:
    https://videocardz.com/newz/next-gen...-400w-of-power

I have a SFF system,so the RTX3060TI/RX6700XT/RX6800 are about the limit of where I would want power and heat to be. Let's hope it at least means a decent performance improvement!
