An extra test Hexus could run to stand out is checking SLC cache recovery. Some do this this but many don't explain their methodology very well or don't wait very long.
Most if not all reviews missed the bug with the 980 Pro (I think it was that drive anyway) where its SLC cache simply did not recover - you got one blast of SLC speed then it reverted to TLC speed permanently (or at least long enough that it never appeared to recover). Review methodology often involves running the tests, then sanitising the drives before the next batch of tests, so completely missed the recovery bug. A firmware patch was later released but it took ages for that to happen; it was really disappointing reviews completely missed the opportunity to call the bug out at release time and force a fix.
Some other recent drives also seem very slow to recover SLC cache, some on the order of hours or days of power-on idle time from what I've seen, but no real testing of it so hard to know if it's just anomalies from odd setups, driver bugs or something.
