    Upgrading is easy.

    First thing you need to do is get hold of a compiled build (unless you have an xdk-xbox development kit-for the binary files ). The one that you want to get is a 'T3CH' build and this can be found on xbins.

    When you have got hold of the compiled zip/rar you just unzip it on your pc and we're ready to ftp it over... BUT!.. I'd recommend you ftp into your xbox and back up the xbmc folder (wherever it's installed-probably E:\), the E:\TDATA\0face008 and E:\UDATA\0face008 (these hold the settings). Backing up these is just a fail safe, I've never had a problem with an update but because it seems like theres a lot of changes since your build it might be a good idea to be safe not sorry . Now all you need to do is ftp the xbmc folder from the zip you downloaded over the old version on your xbox. As an extra precaution it's recommended that you delete the E:\TDATA\0face008 and E:\UDATA\0face008 folders because these probably have settings that are obsolete/used differently in the current build.

    That should be you sorted. I would actually suggest holding off on the upgrade for a bit because the xbmc team are currently on a 'bug bash' to get the next stable release out and it'd be worth waiting for that.

    For more in depth guides on xbmc (including upgrading) here's a link to the pages I used for help: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=290958
    and http://www.xboxmediaplayer.de/cgi-bi.../ikonboard.pl?

    As for the hard drives, I've already checked the compatability chart and the WD drives I'm eyeing up should be safe. Thanks for all your help

    Poor perfomance, what about this?

    For the poor performance, this is what i have found, maybe the performace killer??

    Oh, and yes. While I appreciate their love for the netfilter project and it's software: There's absolutely no place in a NAS box for having ip_conntrack linked statically into the kernel - unless you voluntarily want to loose performance. At least to my knowledge, performance of NAS devices counts. So, Thecus, in your own interest: disable ip_conntrack in the kernels you ship.

    Do it nead Raid?

    Hey...I would like to know if the N2100 neads to run in a raid or JBOD. Can't it just run with the disks sepretly.

    Hi |Neo|,

    As far as I'm aware, disks have to be part of a RAID or JBOD to be useable.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    Does anyone have comments on the iTunes server aspect? I am debating between a modded NSLU2 and the Thecus at the moment!

    Cheers

    N2100 is more expensive than NSLU2.

    Depends on if you want to modify the NSLU2 by yourself.
    N2100 runs iTunes out of the box.

    N2100 is faster than iTunes, so this might help when it rescans your iTunes directory, and you can have more iTunes clients (PC with iTunes player, Roku etc).

    NSLU2 has more modifications than N2100, but if you don't use those mods then this is no a decision point.

    Hope this helps your buying decision.
