NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GTX, 7900 GT and 7600 GT Preview

Not content with boosting portable grpahics performance, NVIDIA have also launched their new GPUs, including the GeForce 7900 GTX. Rys examines the architectural changes in some detail, along with detailed performance analysis of the 7900 GTX/GT and 7600 GT.

    Great preview.

Be interesting to see how the 7600gt fairs up against a 6800 ultra (or 6800gs OC) and especially whether the performance of the newer parts is especially well suited to more recent games such as Oblivion.

    A benchers card.

The higher the res, and the more AA/AF the more the X1900 series pull away. Unless you play loads of flight sims, or only Age Of Empires III, i cannot see why you'd want to get a 7900GTX or 7900GT over a X1900XTX or X1800XT.

Surely if you play games you want to use as much AA/AF as you can?

The 7600GT appears to be pretty dam sweet, especially for it's price, it destroys the X1600XT, but ATI are releasing a X1800GT0 to counter, lol.

Unless the 7900 series is dirt cheap, it seems disapointing.

Yes the X1900 is amazingly powerful,it works well against the 7900GTX and only wins in OpenGL

well I would buy the 7900GTX if only for that cooler. Looks great and is apparently alot quiter than the leaf blower on the X1900

I would expect some heavily overclocked 7900gt cards

Sounds like a bit of ATi-catchup going on..
What I'd like to know is whether this means that the 7800's are discontinued or not? I figure they are - or are just about to be - given that Scan's now doing an OC'd 7800GT for around the £170 (inc VAT).

(Thinks ... that SLi - sorry "SLI" - rig is now looking real possible!)

    [btw, before I get a load of flame from the Red Team'ers - I've already got a 7800GT, so I don't fancy spending £300+ to get a X1900XYZ...]

    Cheers!

    Crossy.
