    Extra Virgin Olive Oil

I did a blind tasting on 8 different Olive Oils yesterday, which was very intersting! We tried a selection from various supermarkets and delis, and my favourite turned out to be the most expensive!!

The two I personally liked best were:

Nunez de Prado Extra Virgin Olive Oil (Spanish, in glass bottles in many deli's and via www.brindisa.com and in Sainsburys in a pottery bottle) - This tasted quite floral and green with a slight fruity apple flavour and mild peppery aftertate. Really delicious!!

Safeway The Best PDO Dauno Basso Tavoliere Extra Virgin Olive Oil (Italian) - Again very fruiy with sweet peppery aftertaste.

I think I may and go and make a purchase or two this weekend!

I've had a lot of sobering thoughts in my time.... It was them that started me drinking.

I tend to buy big 3 litre catering drums of it in the arab market here in Dublin, is the cheapest way to buy it I have found
The brand I get is http://www.oilio.com/ and it is very nice, I use it for everything except for deep frying which I do VERY little of as it is just mostly yuk unless I am making Indian Pakoras or something similar.
    I love olive oil.

This is the actual oil I get http://www.oilio.com/olive_extra.html

Would like to do a tasting too but have not seen it in Dublin yet.

Thanks Sair. The last test I saw a few years ago came out heavily in favour of Tesco's own brand EVOO (why does "bung" spring to mind" ).

The best I can recall having was a Spanish one in a plastic bottle sold by Sainsbury's a few years ago.

Any suggestions to ones available at Tesco/Sainsbury/Asda/Morrisons would be good as we dont have a local Safeway. Guess I gotta hunt around the deli's

I forget what mine is, but my web-designer used to get it sent over from Italy in 5l casks - unfortunately I've stopped working there now!
And the stuff my Dad brings over from his "investment" in NZ costs about $30 for 250ml.. but it's very tasty!
