It assumes you've already got the marmalade, and just have to spread it.
Home-made marmalade is in an entirely different league to almost all shop-bought marmalades, the vast majority of which do not, IMHO, deserve to be dignified with the term, being mass-produced pots of a vaguely orange-flavoured sugary concoction. One exception, IMHO, is the Wilkin & Sons products I mentioned which, if not tasting quite home-made, get far closer than anything else I've tried and are, again IMHO, an acceptable substitute.
So, what I'm saying is if you really want the best marmalade, nothing matches home made (assuming the maker is competent). And it's not that hard to do, if time-consuming and a bit smelly at points.
If you can't be bothered and still want a passably-good alternative, locate Wilkins and Sons marmalades (Tiptree for me).
Hence, it's easier than the pesto and stuff idea, because it just requires spreading from a pot, whether you made the contents of the pot or bought it.
WARNING. If you're anything like me and like your marmalade but often can't be bothered to make it, don't try Wilkin & Sons unless you're prepared to be ruined for all the mass-market tripe, because odds are, you'll never want even Duerrs again, much less the basic brands.
In fact, forget Wilkin & Sons. It's 'orrible. Honest. And if you lot start buying it, I might not be able to get it for myself, so pretend I never said anything about it. Duerrs is great. Superb. Double-Honest. Really. :D
Sardines are nice or butter plus a little peanut butter on top (Peanut butter on top changes the flavour completely).:)

Then I melt the cheese and put another bit of toast on top of the melted cheese and spoil it by making a toasted sandwich.
Peanut butter and banana is amazing.
I do that from time to time, but often with variations. First, try a toasted-sandwich maker. Do as you have there, but butter the outside so it fries crispy when you toast it. Second, add a hint of pickle, even if you do it your way. Or add a little chopped tomato. Or better yet, add a bit of chopped tomato and a shredded basil leaf or two.
A little imagination and you turn that basic sandwich into a range of about a dozen alternatives. I get less fed up with something like that if I vary the exact mix each time.
Oh, and cheese and chicken works, too.
Dammit, Cat, I've only just got back with the damn sauce. Is this a conspiracy to wear out the old ones first?

Peanut butter and Marmite is pretty tasty. I also love cheese on toast made with brown bread and topped with Worcestershire sauce, Tobasco, chopped tomatoes and onion fried until it goes golden brown... I'm getting hungry just thinking about it but my favourite is the old classic; baked beans. I like to add a teaspoon of chipotle paste and a dash of Worcestershire sauce and Wright's liquid smoke. I also prefer to have the bread brushed with olive oil and then toasted rather than butter.
