    what Santoku knife?

With Fathers day around the corner I have decided to ask for a Santoku knife as it looks like a good option to have, wondering what suggestions others have for the brand, I don't want to have a small fortune spent on me (rules out Global) but i saw a decent looking one in the procook outlet last week that had a nice weight and feel to it.

    Re: what Santoku knife?

Why santoku out of interest? I don't have one, but I can't think of anything I'd use one for that isn't covered by my chef's knife.

    Re: what Santoku knife?

i have a small and large chefs knife, i use them both for most of my cooking tasks but I miss the cleaver that i used at Dads house, having had a play with a santoku and cleaver i felt happier with the santoku

Î've got 2 Santoku knives and far prefer them to chefs knives, 1) the action 2) scalloped edging and 3) I sometimes drift off when chopping/slicing and because there's no raised point at the end of the blade I don't cut myself which I've done on a number of occasions using classic chef knives

Have you ever tried a ceramic knife? I have the Kyocera KYOTOP Sandgarden HIP Ceramic Utility Knife and it is fantastic.

    Re: what Santoku knife?

Very good and very sharp, I tend to go straight for one of those knifes now unless I feel the need to use the cleaver I got as well.

Veggies fall straight off as the indentations allow air in during the cut rather than have a load of veg sliding up toward the handle. They also fill you with confidence when cutting, I chop twice as fast and still have all my fingers (for now)

Santa got me a magnetic knife block so I could reclaim some draw space, perfect for the 3 knifes i use.

    20% off ends tomorrow.

The X70 range looks very nice if funds allow!

    Re: what Santoku knife?

I bought some X50s today, just a 3 piece set as wanted something better than generic knives for ages. Also looked at a cheap santoku but ended up with a 'Deba' (chefs knife?...)

I'll be slicing veg up tonight regardless of whats for dinner to test them
