    Re: Dodgy RAM and Memtest86+

    My cooler covers the first two RAM slots, and the front fan on it more than covers the second two, but I decided to try a bit harder and have been able to test individual sticks. Here's the results:

    Configuration - Time(h) - Passes - Errors
    Stick 1 Slot 1 - - 4:30 - - - - 9 - - - 24
    Stick 2 Slot 1 - - 1:53 - - - - 4 - - - 0

    It appears we have a winner! However, the first time I booted into Windows with the one good stick, I got a Hyper Transport sync flood error. I've had these before, but assumed they were to do with whatever else was broken. A quick Google doesn't yield any particularly satisfying results. It appears to mostly be motherboard related, and can be fixed with a BIOS update. Sometimes.

    I'll keep looking into this HT sync flood error, and perhaps put the one good stick through an overnight test. Are my above results good enough to send a grumpy letter to Ebuyer on? The RAM clearly isn't doing too well, but the other error makes me wonder if more is broken too. Thanks again for all your help guys.

    Niko =)

    Re: Dodgy RAM and Memtext86+

    A little while after my last post my PC froze again - the problem this RAM testing has been aiming to fix. Whether one of the sticks is broken or not, it's not what is causing my problems. Since I restarted the PC after it froze, it's been unable to locate any kind of network adapter. I have no idea why changing the RAM around would make this break. =(

    Any ideas would be great.

    Flaky on-board ethernet port? I've seen several examples of this.

    Yeah, it's pretty depressing. I've been trying to make this PC work properly for about 6 months on and off. Maybe I should sell all the components and buy an Alienware or something... I'm not sure whether to send the RAM back, as the PC still crashes, and now I can't seem to make the network adapter work at all either. It's just not in the device manager...

    Update: Looks like the RAM was a bit low on voltage, but I've corrected that now. I'll see if it makes a difference to stability with one stick of memory, and if it does, see if the other one will behave better also. Still no sign of a network adapter though.
