    Problem with Corsair Vengeance LP

Hello, hopefully this won't be too stupid a question but I know very little about RAM.

I've just installed two 4gb Vengeance LP 1600 in gigabyte 785gt-ud3h (compatible according to Corsair), now on posting I get a warning of 'failure due to overlocking'. I can skip that warning and get into Windows but I notice that no matter what settings I'm putting into BIOS they're being ignored and setting the ram to 1333 as well as ignoring any overlock I might have had. I've popped them back out and gone back to the OCZ Platinum I originally had in there.

I've been googling away at this but can't seem to find an answer, if it helps at all I was getting two long beeps and one short at post, but that doesn't seem to exist as a post code. Please let me know if I need to provide any more information...

    Thanks

    Hi Steve1,

You say the settings you are putting in the bios are being ignored, are you pressing f10 to save them?.

Maybe you need to load the default settings with the new ram and then proceed to overclock from scratch.

    Hi Pooley,

Yep, been F10'ing and confirming the save as I try different ideas but each time it boots again I get the failure due to overclocking message, even when I've set my multiplier back to original settings.

The bios has got an option to load fail safe defaults would that take it back to factory settings?

Re: Problem with Corsair Vengeance LP

Thanks for the tip on resetting to defaults. Seems obvious now but I just wouldn't have thought to try it.

Posted first time with no error, so I tested putting the oc back up to 3.4ghz (it was never a spectacular oc!), noticed the memory was still set at 1333 so I changed that to 1600 and all seems to be quite stable.

    Again, thanks for the help.

Re: Problem with Corsair Vengeance LP

i thought you had to enable XMP for the motherboard to recognize the ram's 1600 clock? that's how i did mine as it was showing as 1300 or something at first (i'm using vengeance 2x4gb sticks lp)

A friend of mine told me that overclocking your RAM causes instability and is not recommended. Is he right or is this not entirely true?
