    Question 16GB 1866 MHz CL9 vs. 8GB 2133 MHz CL10 or even?

OK. I am not new into computers but this ram speed and latency is freaking me out. I want to know if there will be significant differences between 1866 MHz vs. 2133 MHz. Secondly, if there is a big difference between CL9 and CL10 or even 11 CAS Latency. I am trying to get the following build for my new computer in 3 weeks and I need advice.

    AMD FX X8 8350 Soket AM3+ 4.0GHz 16MB Cache 32nn
    ASUS Crosshair V Formula AMD 990FX/SB950 AM3+ DDR3 2133MHz (O.C.)
    OCZ FATAL1TY SERISI 80PLUS 750W
COOLER MASTER HAF 912 ADVANCE MIDT ATX
    CORSAIR 8GB (2x4GB) Vengeance 1866MHz DDR3 CL9 Ram
    CORSAIR 8GB (2x4GB) Vengeance 1866MHz DDR3 CL9 Ram

ASUS 23" VS238N GENIS EKRAN LED

Should I get 4x4GBs 1866 MHz CL9 ram as listed above or just two sticks (8x2=16GBs) of 2133 MHz CL9 or CL10 ram?
There is a price difference and I have read elsewhere but the issue between CL9 and CL10 has not been clarified for me. Would I be able to see a noticable performance difference between CL9 and CL10 ram or even between 1866 vs. 2133.

PS: I will be using my PC for games and heavy programs like Adobe After Effects, etc.

    Thanks in advance.

I think I read somewhere that the FX8350 was not showing any real gains from running faster ram but I can't remember which review I read it in. I would start by looking at some of the reviews on Hexus, Tech Power Up, Anandtech and maybe look at some of the video reviews on Youtube to see what they say about the RAM and overclocking performance.

Alternatively you could try waiting for CAT-THE-FIFTH to spot this and see what he has to say as he tends to give excellent advice on matters such as the AMD FX CPUs.

    I am going to get the 16GB 4x4 kit 1866MHz CL9 ram. I guess that'ts alright.

I would have gone with 2x8gb, if you're intending to overclock you should get better results with just two sticks of RAM instead of 4.

No one has solved the issue between CL9, CL10 and CL11.

How fast is CL9 compared to CL10 and how fast is CL10 compared to CL11. Or is this simply a stupid question? Should we consider other factor too?

AMD memory controllers in the past have done well with low latencies.

    I'd go with two sticks of 8gb 1866mhz, cas10.

You can clock down to 1600 and get better cas and see if theres much difference.

In memory tests the lower latency will show up; in real world you are unlikely to notice much difference. But if you can get the lower latency for a couple of quid then why not? I have 2x8Gb 1866 CL9 on order from Scan as it was only very slightly more expensive than CL9 1600 or CL10 1866.

There will be noticable difference between latencies. Only in benchmarks. So only for bragging rights.

AMD APU`s really benefit from the fastest ram you can stuff into it - a noticeable difference between 1600 >2133 ram is seen

but havent seen any on FX chips? maybe something hexus can test soon?

If you look at older memory modules, they have both lower frequency and lower latency than newer ones. I suppose frequency may be more relevant when it comes to performance.

Would say the same, higher frequency + slightly higher latency >>> lower frequency + slightly lower latency.

Pretty sure the 2133 Mhz CL10 would be faster that 1866 Mhz CL9. Can't think right now of any tests for FX CPUs where it could be proven. But I think it is how it is going to be.

EDIT : Actually, this shows that 1866 vs. 2133 difference is insignificant (go by the money) : http://www.madshrimps.be/articles/ar...#axzz1b4BEvOuG

Unless you're using an AMD APU (which you're not), the extra speed is pretty wasted. Even in benchmarks that test memory bandwidth and latency the differences are not exactly huge, go to the next page and you see that in gaming these differences become even smaller!

Toms hardware did a pretty thorough feature on this specifically for AMD FX.

If your aiming to squeeze every last drop out of your PC then spend over the odds, otherwise get whatever is the best value.
