I would like to upgrade RAM from 8 to 16gb. My concern is compatibility. Can i just buy another 8 gb then plug and play? How important is it to stick to same brand/speed?
I currently have asus mb and fx6300 with gskill ram.
Thanks..

Compatibility should be ensured by most manufacturers and on they modules (JEDEC standards).
Better to check how many empty memory slots you have (some have two, some have four, some have up to eight or more).Without the exact model number your MoBo may have two OR four memory slots (and I guess two is taken up already).
First, Find out how many memory slots you have altogether (open the PC, check the manual, use CPU-Z).
Second, Find out how many of them are occupied (open the PC, use CPU-Z).
Third, Brand no biggie, speed and timings a bit more important. Find out the current speeds and timings.
Fourth, Find modules that in numbers corresponds to your number of empty memory slots, in speed and timings are least the same as your current ones (can be faster, they just will slow down to the existing ones) and they don't break your bank :-D
Good luck!
Check the voltage of the modules you already have, and made sure the new ones are the same voltage.
Sticking to the same model of ram makes things easier for the motherboard to work out, but ASUS seem pretty good on getting ram to work so you shouldn't have any problems.
As you already have 8GB, there may be better ways to spend your money though. If this is for gaming, how god is your graphics card?
Thanks guys. I can upgrade with some confidence now.
