    ASUS P8H67-I deluxe

So this board has three outputs - display port, DVI and VGA. I know you can use two simultaneously but does anyone know whether it will power three monitors at once?

Not entirely sure,i suppose you could if the monitors used were displaying the same images, although you would possibly need a splitter or adapter of somekind.I dont think you would be able to get Eyefinity type display to work though.

To be honest you would be better to add a graphics card of some kind, even if a low end model, that way you will have more monitor options. Also sandy bridge graphics are'nt really worthy of the expense of 3 monitors.A cheap ATI card with Eyefinity would be worth a look, you can get passive low-profile cards for low power/silent use.

That's pretty lame. I confirmed this though. Even with three outputs, you can only use two simultaneously. No idea why there's this artificial limitation.....

Any recs for dirt-cheap passive Eyefinity boards?

no use....you could simply connect your graphic card's DVI/displayport to 3 monitors...maybe go for a P8P67 LE? quite cheap choice, and buy a ATI 6770, or wait for 7770, if you are keen to use 3 monitors, sandy bridge's hd 3000 can't really handle 3 monitors if you want to play some pc game.

If it is limited to 2 outputs then it's probably because that's all the on board GPU offers which is a feature of the CPU + chipset. Your gripe would then be with Intel rather than the mobo manufacturer.

I don't game. How do I connect multiple to DVI/DP?

What? So HD2000 has a limitation for just two monitors?!

taken from the specs for the z68 chipset which can be found here: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/...s-chipset.html

note P67 chipset doesn't give access to onboard graphics.

AMD eyefinity cards usually are capable of running 3 monitors at a time off one card though performance will take a hit and a larger buffer (RAM) will be required to get decent performance.

NVidia cards tend to only do 2 screens at a time IIRC.

If it were me I'd go z68 and run 2 screens off the mobo for desktop and monitoring software etc and 1 off the GPU for gaming (if I were having a 3 screen set-up as this suits my usage). If you want 3 screens for gaming, you either need 1 good AMD eyefinity card or 2 NVidia cards in SLI.
