I know it's a 6-core but it's seen by Windows as a 12 core. I currently have an i7-2700k overclocked to 4.4 Ghz and I cool it with a Noctua D14-2011 air cooler (the cooler works on a 1156 or 2011 socket)
I currently have the Asus P8z77-v Pro motherboard but it's complete crap. I can't plug more than 2 USB 3.0 hard drives in at once for example without some disconnecting yet USB 2.0 hard drives work fine. Another problem is that my encodings for some apparent reason after about 1 month of working fine decide to encode at 2 FPS slower than normal or worse at half speed. I have to reinstall the motherboard firmware to get it working properly again. I've had to do that several times but it doesn't seem to be working any more. I'm fed up so I want to buy a new non-Asus motherboard. There's also another problem but I'm not sure if it's the motherboard or if it's just the USB 3 spec. I have some Freecom 3TB USB 3.0 hard drives and some Hitachi 3TB Touro USB 3.0 hard drives. I have loads of videos on them at around 3GB each. I get 48 Mbps max transfer rate when copying from 1 USB drive to the other. Isn't that the max speed of USB 2.0? I thought USB 3.0 was supposed to be at least 10 times faster than USB 2? I got 15 Mbps on my USB 2.0 PC that I don't use anymore.
Even when the encoding are working properly I'm getting 12-14 Fps (I use powerful restoration scripts) which isn't as fast as I'd like. I've already overclocked to 4.4 Ghz on my 2700K and I use a Noctua D14-2011 air cooler which has a huge heatsink and 2 fans.
My priority is with getting a motherboard that simply works without the issues I mentioned before. Preferably I would like a motherboard that will also be compatible with the socket used for the new Haswell 6-8 Core (really 12-16 cores)
A bonus would be 2 USB 3.0 headers and lots of USB 2.0 & Sata III ports.
I also have some overclocking questions about the CPU here.
