win7 on x570?

Has anyone got win7 working on x570?

Not here for a debate on why win7, I just want to know if it's doable, and has anyone actually done it/can point me to someone who has? Obv some drivers will need to be loaded into the win7 image, but can it be got running on x570? x370 and x470 both have win7 chipset drivers for download. not x570, even though the motherboard should support the chips that are supposed to work on win7.

AMD site only lists win10 chipset driver, but then I'm fairly sure you're supposed to be able to run it on linux too, so presumably the necessary drivers exist elsewhere for that too.

Linux should just simply work, as long as you don't get bitten by the rdrand CPU bug like I was with Fedora 30 which was annoying as if I hadn't upgraded from Fedora 29 with its older systemd I would have been just fine. I see ASUS have a new BIOS out, hopefully that will stop the issue completely.

As for win 7, the drivers for my X470 board are a year old so I'm guessing that isn't really supported on older boards now if there aren't actually any updates.

I assume the linux drivers are in the mainline kernel so don't need to be a download.
Do you have an x570 board or are you considering getting one? I'm not debating why win7, but on win 8.1, you can disable most nonsense, and with classic shell it's pretty close to windows 7, and you have control over updates.

note the OP in that thread has just updated the drivers with more current versions.

The video suggests you can use pcie-ps2 converter to get things up and running if the board doesn't have a native one. Note though I've read elsewhere that might not be the case but I can't find that comment again now on looking for it again to post a link to it. Either way it might be best to stick with a board that has native ps2 to be on the safe side.

so far so good. Win7 installed. Working my way through the drivers to get everything up to speed

atemporal the suggestion to get a pcie-ps2 card was brilliant. The mobo had one native ps2 port so I plugged the keyboard into that and both uefi and windows can see it. The uefi recognises the usb2 rear port for the mouse but not the ps2 card. Win7 couldn't see the usb port from the off, but could see the ps2 card so I was able to use a usb-ps2 converter to plug the mouse into that for the windows install.

glad it helped. Is it stable? Any hangs / BSODs? All drivers ok? Any yellow warning triangles in device manager?

Almost. Still trying to find a way to get the wireless to work. I'm not sure if 3.1 drivers have installed properly. Managed to get all usb3 ports working using just various forms of amd driver but it's not showing up as 3.1 in the device manager.

I resorted to some unofficial drivers someone cobbled together. Working fine and stably. Very happy with it. Doing dual boot win10/win7 for various things. It's also interesting running comparison benchmarks between the two but on the same hardware and bios. I will post more fully when I get some down time but things are a bit crazy atm.

The only thing I couldn't get to work in 7 is the native wifi6 as there aren't any drivers that I can find. I started seeing if I could modify some but it's beyond my skill set, and time needs to go elsewhere tbh.
