If I had to go with an X570, it would be the Asus X570-E
If I had to go with an X570, it would be the Asus X570-E
I'm interested what you went for? Knowing more now B550 over X570?
MSI MAG X570 TOMAHAWK WIFI and the Asus TUF Gaming X570-Plus are mentioned by Buildzoid on GamersNexus as having the best VRMs at that price.
Bang for buck definitely the MSI X570 Tomahawk board.
Great VFM board.
I'm in the same boat as you - currently building a new pc and looking at Mobos...I'm going for the MSI X570 Tomahawk board!
I've used both the MSI x570 Tomahawk and x570 TUF, both are great boards.
Wanted to share a few opinions and observations I have about those two motherboards, perhaps someone else will find it useful in making a decision, stuff usually reviewers don't discuss. I am only highlighting some quality of life things I've experienced with both MBs.
Both motherboards are often recommended by reviewers as having very good VRMs for their price point and very comparable features.
M.2 Heatspreader
MSI has a heatsink on both M.2 slots
ASUS only has on the bottom one which is counterintuitive to me.
Network and WIFI
MSI has 2.5G Ethernet & WIFI 6 (AX ) and has antennas that fit at the back of the MB, so you are somewhat stuck with that.
Asus has 1G Ethernet & WIFI 5 (AC) with extension antenna that can be elevated.
WIFI ANTENNAS
MSI has 2x screw antennas on the back
Asus has an extension antenna
CHIPSET COOLING:
Chipset cooler can be covered by the GPU, unsure how temperature is affected
Asus TUF chipset cooler covered by GPU
MSI Chipset not covered by GPU.
BIOS UPDATE:
MSI requires a USB Stick - a bit annoying tbh.
Asus can read from the local disk
Fan Headers
ASUS has PUMP, CPU_FAN AND CPU_OPT and CASE fans are spread around the MB
MSI has PUMP & CPU_FAN and CASE fans are all grouped at the bottom
CPU:
If you're running the NH-D15 you have to use a splitter and that may cause issues if you're running different size fans/models if RAM height is an issue.
Case fans:
In my case, I am running Noctua NF-A12 on the back exhaust and the regular cable is too short to reach the bottom in MSI, so I have to use the extender.
MB headers:
ASUS has compatibility Power LED connector, spread over 3 PINS, which help with older cases, like mine.
MSI only has 2 PIN Power LED connector and I can't use it my old case.
What reason's do you guys go for X570 over B550?
One major advantage that B550 has over x570 is the lack of chipset fan
A good B550 is an attractive proposition, a bad one is not. You might as well get B450 or X470.
X570 slightly more future proof if you plan on having it a long time. But given a lot of people will go to AM5(?) when it comes out you may decide likewise to go B550 and then move on in the same way.
i ended up going for the msi x570 tomahawk as at that price the vrm design is really hard to beat
PsyPill beat me to it, from my point of view it was future proof and pci-e gen4 being more integrated.
Glad you went with the tomahawk, its a top rated board, good choice.
Thanks.
