ITX AM4 Board for 3400g

Looking at shrinking my server, probably going to be looking at the Ryzen 5 3400g APU, a B450 board and 32Gb RAM to replace i5-3470, mATX and 32Gb RAM.

32Gb RAM is enough, I could run on 16Gb really so don't need to goto B550 and 64Gb limit, so, B450...

Anyone done anything similar and can recommend a board?

I would say this motherboard but AMD apparently does not support the APUs on B550:

With the B550 you will need to wait for the Ryzen 4000 APUs. BTW,have you considered getting a Ryzen 3 3100X,and a basic low profile GPU??

The Gigabyte does have a top mounted M2 slot with a heatsink,which the ASRock lacks,but the latter has optical out. Both use Intel LAN and Wifi chips.

I've used both those, they were both fine. For some reason I can't put a finger on (but probably the more flexible video outputs are a part given my dual monitor usage) I preferred the Aorus board, which surprised me as I don't usually get on with Gigabyte boards. I'm sure either will do you though.

Edit: If you don't already have the 3400g, then Cat's suggestion of a 3100 is a good one. I have a 2200G here, and it feels more of a limitation than something useful now thanks to not being able to use it in a B550 board and it not taking ECC ram. I may just bite the bullet and get a proper CPU for my server build, rather than originally I was planning to upgrade the CPU later to spread the costs. I'm sure I can dig out a suitable video card.

Hi guys,
The Aorus Pro Wifi is the one that's top of my list currently due to the Intel NIC.
There will be no options for a low profile GPU, as expansion is limited and as its a server build I'll be using the PCI-e slot for a quad NIC or Storage Controller card.
B450 is where I'm looking as B550 boards are a load more expensive and probably overkill for what the server does.

And yes, while I say server, its not "proper" by any stretch, its just a desktop with storage running Server 2019 and a few VM's.

I'm using the MSI B450i Gaming Plus - £120 on Amazon. Fitted my 3700X onto it, no issues for the year I've had it. CMOS reset button is a ridiculous place through, right below the rear I/O cover plate, very hard to get too in a small build.

My mate has the MSI too,and it technically has the best VRMs of any B450 mini-ITX motherboards,but the layout of the Gigabyte is good,with its top mounted M2 slot and SOC VRM cooling.

I'd be bothered about the VRM's if I was pushing the board, but for £114 and given its got an Intel NIC I'm thinking its a winner at the mo, especially given that I'm only going to be putting a 65w APU in there, maybe something better if it supports the 4000 series with a BIOS update.

I'm replacing an i5-3470 and dropping size from a Node 804 for a Node 304, so performance wise I'm a bit faster on the Ryzen but its the size that's the main thing.
