ASUS B550 XE Gaming - opinions?

I have assembled most of the bits for my new PC now - but I have been dithering and procrastinating for so long over the main board that I am properly BORED (pun intended!) about it!!

I have a 5800X that’s going into a big old silverstone case with a big old Seasonic PSU a 1080ti, a creative sound card, 32 GB of either 3200 or 3600 RAM (haven’t bought that yet) and a Noctua air cooler.

I’ve bored Cat the fifth already with my thought process, but I want longevity (5 years plus) integrated bluetooth and good connectivity. The inbuilt fan on the X570 chipset is what’s put me off that for now, and now I find myself looking at another board (this time a B550) that also HAS an integrated fan, albeit it appears you can turn it off in the bios.

Does anyone have any experience with this board ? The reason I’m drawn to it is that it seems very well featured, is now under £200 plus ASUS are doing £60 cash back - so it seems rather good value..

The X570S motherboards are starting to appear:

    https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/X570S%20PG%20Riptide/

    The chipset now is fanless.

As above, x570s is fanless, however, you can get used x570 boards for less than £150 now, I have 2 of the Aorus x570 Pro Wifi iTX boards, and you cant hear the fan over the other fans in the systems..
When I was looking for a board it was either a used x570 or a B550M and the only reason for the B550 was the 2.5Gbe on it, however, the x570 swung it, I already had one so knew they were solid boards, and the PCI-ex lanes for the nvme drive is more useful than the 2.5Gbe for my use..

you can also run a PCIe 4 NVME drive on B550, they've got the same number of PCIe lanes

That looks perfect, thanks Cat, can’t seem to see any release dates at present though - or pricing.. Do you think we are likely to see these in retailer’s imminently?

I'm sure I had read that the B550 didn't have 4.0 lanes, the x570 also had better CPU support which was another factor in my going down the x570.

In an AMD system (so long as it's not an APU) you have 20 PCIe lanes coming straight off the CPU available to the user, all PCIe 4. This gives 16 for a GPU and 4 for an SSD, so that's anything you're doing on MITX sorted. You can also hang PCIe things off the chipset, with the caveat that all the stuff on the chipset shares a 4x PCIe link to the CPU - on B550 this is PCIe 3, and it's PCIe 4 on X570. Adding multiple NVMe SSDs will see a slowdown compared to 1 on any chipset, but on X570 it's a bit faster at that - it's only once you start filling all the PCIe slots you find this difference, and it's the only difference

Re: ASUS B550 XE Gaming - opinions?

Anyone seen any info about pricing or when the aforementioned X570S might surface ?
