Cheap AM4 board for 2700x

Hi Folks,

After upgrading my CPU etc, I have enough parts for another pc for the house. I just need a mobo and ram.

The PTc would have, 650w psu, GTX1070, 2700x, ssds for storage etc.

So, can anyone recommend a cheap motherboard to use? I don't need anything fancy. It just needs to have the core bits and pieces etc. Nothing flashy unless it costs no more.

It's a bit of a wierd one, as the 2700X is quite power hungry, but it's a low budget, and AM4 reasonable board prices have increased due to them becoming increasingly rare.

B450A - Pro / Tomahawk / Mortar would be the ones to look out for, maybe ASrock Pro4 / Steel Legend

Not too bothered about board size. Given all that would be connected to it. MATX or ATX would be grand.

I have noticed the price going up. B550 boards are cheaper but don't support it!

I bought my board there last year as they were the only ones stocking it, but I couldn't comment on after sales as thankfully I've not needed it.

You'd definitely have to do some homework on the CPU/motherboard combination.
I see a number of mixed posts with people who have updated their BIOS can no longer use the unsupported CPUs and certain boards just don't work at all.

But I was surprised to see someone successfully using a 1000 series on a B550

My last purchase for something like that (old 2200G apu lying around) was an A320 ITX board. Has been fine so far.

I did find with my spare 3700x B550 boards were easier to find and cheaper but of course with support it was a no brainer.

If doing the same with a 2700x I would find a good board and then research that.

With that are you currently running a 5800x3D on an x470, could you get a B550/X570 board for that and use the x470 for the 2700x?

I'd rather not take my build apart Would need new os license etc as well.

SOme have said b550 worked, but it seems a grey area and isn't a def.

You wouldn't need a new OS licence. I have just changed the mainboard on my PC and you can transfer the licence if you have a digital licence, one tied to your Microsoft account. To do that just change it in settings to an online account. Then change it back after you have activated, assuming you had an offline account before. Mine didn't even need to be activated again

Thank you, but that's likely too much for me. I can get 2x 8gb sticks of 3200 for £30 new. I'd be willing to pay more if needed, but as this is likely to be more of a home office pc, I don't think I need more ram. Ideally I'm trying to spend less than £100 on ram and mobo atm.
