I saw this film last night. I think it's coming to the UK in a couple of weeks, so you have the hype to look forward to. It's a big film! I really, really enjoyed it. But at the same time I wonder if it's going to annoy a lot of people. Already the web is full of 'WallE is racist against fat people' comments, and it's true. Wall E does take a poke at fat people, the ignorant and people who spend too much time using IT service to avoid real social interaction (erm.... Hi!). There were a few fat people who waddled out part way through, but I think it's a fair social commentary. This film is very damning of American culture, and for me this was a more prevalent message than dancing robots.
Of course, it's all been done before. 'Idiocracy' in particular highlighted the direction in which this culture is heading. The difference is, this is a mainstream kids film, which is likely to be seen by a much wider audience. How much of this audience will be too stupid to realise is another question. Of course, as Europeans, we openly Gawk at the fat people in their electric chairs driving around Walmart. We already think of Americans as fitting with the people in this film. So in that respect, all it does is enhance the stereotype.
I look forward to comments in a few weeks.
