Timeouts and Bittorrent problems with new router

Before I say whats up I spose I better say what I'm running...

I'm on a Virgin Media 8mb connection that runs into a USRobotics USR848004 cable router and then off in four different directions to pc's around the house.

I had a similar network set-up with a D-link DL604 for years but it died a couple of weeks back and apparently my technologically inept familly need the internet like air these days so I had to go out and get a new router sharpish, I ended up with the USRobotics unit as it seemed to have a spec sheet very similar to that of the old Dlink, unfortunatly since installing everything fresh I've been having alot of timeout issues when trying to access web pages, I often have to refresh them several times sometimes before they load, I've also noticed that downloading via bittorrent my downloads have been cutting out frequently and not restarting.

Unfortunatly my ISP (Telewest originally) went over to Virgin Media at around the same time as I installed the router and as its not always acting up I'm having some difficulty working out if the the faults with virgin media or with the new router, if anyone could shed any light on the situation for me it'd be fantastic as having the entire household at my throat every time the internet goes down because its either messed up again or I'm trying to test it is becoming very annoying.

    you're on ADSL then?
    whats your upstream speed?
When you're connection cuts out, are you using bit torrent?

Set a static IP for your router and forward your ports http://portforward.com/
Disable DHT it sucks up bandwidth on ADSLmax for some reason.
Turn on Encryption and use a none standard port for your client(just pick one at random)
Try setting your upstream to about 50% of the max(normally i'd say 90, but there's 4PC's needing bandwidth)

Apparently Virgin throttle torrent data during the day, so try running between 12-8am.

I am having the same problem as you, virgin with broadband router. I get higher than average pings or just get ci as soon as I get onto a server (not to recover). Past 7pm I find that any servers are unplayable for any games and so is the direct connection from the ntl 250 modem. So in my case its a mixture of me not knowing how to fix my router and crappy virgin tinternet.

    *scratches self*

Ive never had any problems with my virgin media cable broandband connection

Knoxville... i remember my WRT54G Linksys was having similar problem.. i flashed the firmware and allowed more connections... sometimes the router makers are c**** because they limit connections...
