Essential Network Sharing Question

Hi guys,

The time has come to ask a critical question. I'm sharing an adsl connection. One of my flatmate is using a p2p software (limewire) to download loads of stuff. I have access to the adsl modem/router configuration.

My question:

1) Is there a way of limiting the bandwidth, so that there is some juice left for me?

not unless its a top range router im sure i saw abit of software that did it bit cant remember the name

depends who's paying the bill....

I'd say tell him to run it overnight or when you're not using the net - tis only fair really.

i'm paying!!!! i need to ask for a contribution then I would prefer a more subtle way of minimising the usage.

Simply tell him to turn it off or you'll turn it off permanently!

true true.... i'll start with a set of warning. Not complying will result in permament disconnection. But, first negotiation will go ahead (contribution)

even with contribution, he should do as you ask. Don't forget some ISP's may have capping limits hidden in their contracts.

There's also the legal side of things to consider - IF he's caught downloading copyright material, yours is the name on the bill.
