    unlimited broadband 38mbps down + 4mbps upload £19.99 F.U.P

Now that got your attention. very late April fool .sorry

but there is a serious point.

I hate FUP (fair use policy). as people should get what they have paid for.

there is a petition to stop companies saying a service is unlimited when in fact it is very limited. i stumbled across it because i was looking for people who had a bad experience with Bebroadband. (im thinking of signing up)

    http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Unlimited-ADSL/

anyhow if you want to it would be a good thing for you to
support this petition and tell as many people about it as you can.

    Who with ?

Mine is currently uncapped as it is an account that was unlimited on Talk Talk before they were bought up by Pipex.

there was a piece on the register about this. saying that those who provide unlimited broadband arn't going to be able to for much longer.

Homechoice, well recently bought by Tiscali. Hopefully the situation isn't going to change

I hate FUP as well, we currently have a limit of 40GB which is perfect, but if we ever paid for and got "unlimited" then I'd expect to be able to download 100GB+ worth of stuff every month if I wanted.

I'll have to be signing that petition, FUP sucks balls.

    Hi,

I've signed up also, and I'm posting this link to my friends who are also having ISP 'issues'.

I have been with Telewest (Blueyonder) cable croadband since it was made available in my area, and it has always been a superb service with no bandwidth caps. Now I hear they are trialling traffic shaping during peak hours (4.00pm until midnight) in some areas including Preston and the Fylde coast. I have been given no warning about this, and the tech support staff seem purport to knowing nothing about this. Whilst I am prepared to accept that some traffic shaping MAY be required, I think if they are going to change the terms of service to move from a none traffic shaped network to a traffic shaped one at peak hours, customers should be notified, allowing them to make an informed decision whther or not they want to stay with Telewest, or move to a truly unlimited service and pay a premium.

I am sorry to say that in the future it looks like we WILL see a two tier internet, with a basic service for the masses, and a premium, unlimited, ultra high speed service for those that can afford it. Whilst this is against everything the internet was meant to be, now the big money telecoms companies are involved, it looks inevitable.

    Best wishes,

    Dave

I think they brought that in when NTL 'took over'. I'm hoping Branson won't take this trial any further. With all the custom they've lost over the last couple of months with the Sky argument, maybe they'll think twice about nobbling the only card they have over Sky.

Where did you get the idea that the internet was meant to be a free unlimited service? - or what is your interpretation of what the internet was meant to be? (In fact IP protocols and the initial internet was developed by the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency - DARPA)to provide a resilient communications medium for defence purposes in the event of a nuclear strike. It was subsequently taken up by the academic community (which spawned JANET) and then, as the costs of providing the hgh capacity backbones escalated, it was opened up to the commercial world and anyone who can pay for it. Like ay other resource, bandwidth is limited, and costs money to provide.

That's why we pay ISP subscription charges, ISPs are just too tight to expand their pipes these days. My ISP doesn't cap our line, they add capacity as their network demands grow, that's how it should be.

Grrr. This thread angers me on two levels:

The futility of the PM petition service which is especially true due to ridiculous things on it that have nothing to do with the government/are generally rubbish - this petition meets both of those requirements.

Secondly, your complete non-understanding of the fact that uncontented ADSL is impossible. ADSL, by it's very nature is a contended service. You can not have infinitely great amounts of bandwidth. There are a few ISPs that are investing in bandwidth, but it's completely not viable for them to have a free 622 central for every user on their network - which is what most people seem to be expecting.

    Regards,
    Mark

Ofcom doesn't deal with individual complaints, so this is one way in, but I reckon the best way to get this into parliament is for an MP to get cut off because they've downloaded too much...

It's the governments job to protect it's people, whether it be from foreign aggression or scams, it doesn't matter, that's their job, that's what we pay taxes for, not for them to fly to the Alps and enjoy a 2 week holiday twice a year with champaign and caviare all day.

uncontended ADSL is impossible and completely not viable for ISPs to extend their network with more and more customers signing up eh?

What angers me on every level is FUD and nonsense.
