What do I need to make my Xbox Wireless?

HI Guys...

There are too many cables going through our house, and seeing as we have a wireless router I thought I could get the xbox hooked up wirelessly.

I basically want a box with an ethernet port, and a wifi antenna on it right? something like this or this?

These 'gaming adapters', is this just marketing speak to be able to bump the cost up over a normal Access Point... are there any cheap alternatives? basically, what do i need to buy and how much is it going to cost

... quick edit.. do i simply need a 'wireless ethernet bridge' thingy.. if so any recommendations?

Are we talking old xbox or Xbox 360? The 360 has an "official" wireless adapter.

I had one that was cheap, but rather fiddly to set up, called a Zoom Gamepoint, as seen here.

You can’t just plug a wireless adapter into your PlayStation2 or Xbox, or even into a KiSS DVD player, because you won’t be able to load the necessary drivers.


This is where a wireless bridge comes in. With a wireless bridge you can connect any Ethernet enabled device to wireless network without the need for driver support. Once configured and connected to a device, a wireless bridge will become completely transparent, so that the wireless access point you’re connecting to will see the physical MAC address of the Ethernet enabled device, rather than the bridge. This basically means that if you connect your Xbox to the WGE101, your wireless access point will only see the physical address of your Xbox, and as far as the access point is concerned, your Xbox has a wireless adapter built into it.

and i suggest getting one thats the same brand as your router, for obvious reasons.

netgear do a wge111... tho i cant find any available think i might grab a belkin one, tho im going to wait til the summer when im back at home again - dont have a wireless network setup @ uni

thats what i was starting to think I'll see what I can pickup in the next couple of months...

... alternatively you can install dd-wrt on a 'la fonera' jobby and set it up as a wireless bridge and get it for free
