    No really Mesh' but...

    Hi Guys,

This a bit cheaky I am a mesh customer and have a nice new shiney PC from them, but my problem is my wifes 5 month old Pakard bell laptop. I have a wired/wireless network at home with my desktop wired and my wife's and son's laptops wireless. The problem I am having is that my wife's laptop keeps losing it's connection to the internet with the page cannot be displayed message comming up after she has been on line for about 15 mins. If the laptop is left alone (on or off) for about 20mins it can then get back on line but nothing until then (I hear you all crowing that it is a hardwear and heat issue but.....read on). However I can still ping the router and my desktop from the lapton and also print to a networked printer even while the internet is unavalble, I cannot however access even the routers set up page with IE7.....

As I say not strickly mesh but you guys seem to be quite well clued up and I have hit a brick wall and am just about ready to take it back to PC world but would like to avoid the hassle and loss of the lapton for days/weeks if poss.

    Many thanks in advance

    Tony G....

This'd probably be better placed in Hexus.help; it'd get broader viewing, and as you note, it's not really a Mesh issue. That said, the first thing that I'd do is check that IE7 is not set to use a proxy, and not set to autodetect one. Tools, internet options, connections, LAN settings. Make sure that "automatically detect" and "Use a proxy server" are unticked. I'd also check whether the same problem occurs with another browser, say Opera or Firefox. Are you using the WLAN adapter's supplied software for your wireless connection, or are you letting Windows' Wireless Zero Config handle it?

    Hi NIch',

Thanks for the suggestions been there done that I should have said that until about 10 days ago it was fine and also that it can send and recive e-mail via outlook express. I just tried firefox and that drops out at the same time as IE7 so it is all a bit weired I get the same results if encription is on or off and I really can't think of anything else. Gonna have to take it back to PCworld it looks like I have backed up all the files and stuff from it so we will see what they make of it.

Once again thanks for the reply.

Have you tried resetting the router to factory settings?

The router is fine as my desktop and my son's wireless laptop have no problems connecting only my wife laptop has a prob' or had. I have given up trying to find the problem been though just about evrything possible and just did a recovery to the original state when we got the laptop and it is now fine. It must have been a softwear issue but even after uninsatlling everything it still would not behave, hey i guess somtimes you never get to the bottom if it. my wife is going to reinsatll all that was on there and I will try to monitor it and maybe will be back to let you know if I fine somthing that make it happen again.

    Thanks for the help guys.

Hawkmoon , I'm going to move this to the HEXUS network section, with a redirect from the orig. position. More people will see the query and hopefully be able to help.

hum.. are you manually setting the IP for each computer? It could be that the laptop is trying to use the same IP as another computer on the network and that would obviously cause problems.. Just guessing!
