    cheap router/modem needed.

    hello,
my bt home hub was fine for the first few weeks.
    now it disconnects me everynight.
and when its connected it laggs.
on friday i will be replacing the usb connection with a more reliable ethernet pci card.
i now need a replacement router.
for around £45 i have seen a dlink 54mb wireless with free usb dongle.
a buffalo for £45 at tesco with free dongle.
and a zyxel with free dongle for £40

bt homehubs are terrible. fact. i would focus on just getting a replacement router first before you mess with the pci/usb cards. my dlink G624M is bullet proof as a modemrouter, but will not do ddsn (which it should) or adsl 2+ (which it also should). currently using it as just a router and cant see myself chaning in the next 2 years.

its worth checking there isnt something more sisnter wrong. when you say it connects you do you mean from the wireless or from the adsl?

I'm using the homehub since I fried my Belkin router, and its been fine. Getting torrents off TMB and it crashed less regularly than the Belkin. Admittedly, its going to get replaced at the first opportunity, but for a freebie (as mine was) it wasn't too bad...chances are the problem lies elsewhere.

I have two netgear routers, one with a modem and one just a router.

The modem one is the Netgear DG834

And it works great. It runs off a external power supply which is a pro and is easy to setup can the MTU is customisable when u access the router through ur pc
Never drops a connection, but then again i have the latest version and i know some places who have left over stocks may give u older versions which have a poor memory system.

What you really wanna dow hen checking out routers is see if it has a good table sturcture as i believe that what makes connections drop or routers crash.

atm i connect to the home hub via the usb connection.
thats why ive ordered a ethernet card that is coming tomorrow.
i know that hardly any router have usb connections for good reason.
so for £10 the gigabit ethernet card was worth it.

If you want a dirt cheap ADSL 54g router/modem then try the Trendnet TEW-435BRM its around £27 - havent had any problems in the year that I have had it

    got any links?
    i saw a zyzel router/modem for £40 and a buffalo modem/router for around £45
or a dlink for around £45
    or a linksys wag200g for £37
i just want a wireless router that doesnt drop connection.
it just needs to be super reliable.

I'm having a similar prob with my homehub. Every night between 9.30 and 10pm it starts. It disconnects then reconnects in roughly 1 minute intervals, this usually is still going on when I go to bed at around midnight.

Strange thing though is that during the day it is just fine and works with virtually no problems, few disconnections but manageable. On an evening though when I'm trying to play Guild Wars it is a nightmare.

Not overly sure whether it is the hub or a problem with my line or exchange. Whenever I contact BT about it they say there is nothing wrong.
