Could be interleaving active = higher latency. Good otherwise.
This looks rather good, I'm moving into a new place next week.
I wanted Sky Sports and was thinking about the getting this 16Mb internet package.
Whats the service, time until installation and generally sky like?
Skys LLU based services have interleaving on by default as far as Im aware - interleaving in short is error correction on the line whilst sacrificing latency.
Interleaving normally adds about 15-20ms on onto a normal fastpath ping but this is still fine for games, just stick to UK/EU servers rather than US/AUS thats all.
Quick way to check if your on LLU is to log into your router and check the line upload rate - usually 768kbs or more.
Servie is good.
Installation was 8 days from Sky receiving my MAC code
All in all for only a tenner its fantastic.
Obviously there are people who aren't happy but every company gets this.
Interleaving is on all packages except the 'Sky Connect' one...you are right. Where you are wrong is the increased latency. Thats a 'closeness to exchange/server' issue. Nothing to do with interleaving.
Its also incorrect to say that you need to stick to UK/EU servers because of this. ALL UK ISPs will have a 90+ ping on a USA for example. This is a logistic thing not an ISP thing.
LLU is normally on if you get over 8mb.
Incorrect Im afraid, as you and I know, Sky Connect is where LLU is not installed in an exchange. In this case Sky will provision on IPStream/DSL Max. DSL Max can be interleaved although is not usually on by default.
My point was of typical symptoms of Interleaving and how to avoid them - the point you are trying to (quite correctly) make is that this is an end user (ie router) to DSLAM/MSAN line 'feature' which increases the latency and not ISP side.Where you are wrong is the increased latency.
By playing (ie gaming) on UK/EU servers rather than US/AUS servers you just minimise the effect of interleaving. Gaming being the thing that most people worry about when it comes to interleaving.
Incorrect Im afraid, you've forgotten about the bottom end also, ie 8Mb+ on a 4KM line on an LLU exchange? Be careful with a general statement like this when it comes to speedsLLU is normally on if you get over 8mb.
EDIT: my personal view of Interleaving (from working in the ISP industry) is that its a good thing. Some of the error rates on fastpath with very high speed lines (18Mb+) can be very scary
As for Sky, I'd be on them myself If I couldn't get cable, the speeds are good (tested personally on customers machines) and the fact they get BT out of the equation (ie DSLAMs/Centrals etc) is good. BT Openreach just look after the copper and distribution frames etc, which is fine by me.

A question on the Sky TV,
I wouldn't mind getting a Sky+ box, but I'm just wondering about the cost, would I be able to get buy a plus box off ebay and just plug it in and it'll be fine?
Almost all connection on ASDL(2) are interleaved. Thats the point i was trying to make and maybe just not explaining it very well.Incorrect Im afraid, you've forgotten about the bottom end also, ie 8Mb+ on a 4KM line on an LLU exchange?
