    Sky Broadband

    Hello,

I am thinking of joining sky for the broadband and I know they offer a wireless router but can I use my existing Draytek 2600 router with it instead of their one (it's not adsl2 if that matters)?.. What other equipment do they supply?

No, the terms and conditions state you must use the supplied router (a rebranded Netgear DG834GT). Since I am 95% certain you need ADSL 2+, you wouldn't be able to use yours anyway.

you can get your own, but you then need to extract your Sky username and password from the firmware on Sky's router.

A bit of googling will provide the means to do so

    Cheers,

    Re: Sky Broadband

I looked at spec sheet for DG834GT and noticed no mention of adsl2+.

    Re: Sky Broadband

it's not ADSL2, but it is a very good router, and it's very easy to use your own router with them, but sky's customer service is pure crap, but I can't comment on their broadband service, but I'd imagine it's crap too, because you get what you pay for.

    Re: Sky Broadband

For all sky related things - not just broadband - try http://www.skyuser.co.uk/
Its a fantastic site and the forums contain tech sections that can tell you about setting up different routers, or the default one. I've just changed the broadband at my dads place to sky and it seems to be flying along at a nice rate really.

Yes it is as of firmware version 1.01.28 - http://kbserver.netgear.com/release_notes/D103145.asp

Unless you're using an exchange that Easynet have LLU'd then ADSL2+ is irrelevant since you'll only be using bog standard ADSL.
