Advice on BB with 2 PCs, please

Right, I'll admit to having plenty of ignorance on wireless connections, and trying to find out more just leads me to terms I don't understand.
So, I have 2 PCs, don't want to network them (they must be independently useable).

One has no ADSL modem but does have a USB wireless LAN adapter and won't be near a 'phone socket.
The other is on a USB modem but needs to be moved away from any 'phone socket.

I also have a Netgear wireless router (WGT624).

Now, could I use the router on the PC that currently is on the USB modem, then buy a router/modem to plug in to the 'phone socket and connect to ADSL from either or both PCs?

    Thanks,

    Peter.

I think your best option is to get rid of the WGT624 and purchase a Netgear DG834GT Or equivalent. Also purchase another USB Wireless Adapter (if your not confident at opening your computer) but if you are confident then I would highly recommend PCI.

This will allow the 2 PC's to be put anywhere in your house (both connecting wirelessly to the router) leaving only your new Netgear DG834GT near the phone socket.

Right, thanks, that's just what I want to do. Installing a card isn't a problem - I've built and overhauled PCs.
Any reason why the WGT624 shouldn't be used? Just thinking of the cost.

The WGT624 doesn't have an ADSL modem in it (it has an ethernet WAN port, suitable for cable modems) so you'd need to buy an ethernet ADSL modem to get it working.

OK, thanks. I was hoping to use the WGT624 as a substitute for the USB adaptor, but possibly it's too complex for me to set up successfully.
The Netgear DG834GT looks good - I'll investigate further.

    Right, looked at the Netgear.
Cost is a major factor, so would the Edimax AR-7084GA be OK?

I've never used the Edimax, but I'd say you get what you pay for usually... The Netgears are generally stable, simple to set up and use and generally what I recommend to non-techies for their network connections.
