    BT Total Broadband Option 3, any good?

    Ive been looking at changing my isp, and have seen this offer from BT:

    BT Total Broadband Option 3, 8meg with unlimited downloads @ £24.99 12 or 18 month contract.

    Are they any good? I just dont want to be stuck in a contract for a year with a crappy service!

    Im with zen atm.. but paying too much (£34.99 a month) for 2mbps and 100gb cap.

    Re: BT Total Broadband Option 3, any good?

    see if you can get bebroadband at BeThere, they have much better prices and faster uploads not to mention faster speeds for the price
    Speeds will depend on how far you are from your exchange but if you're currently with a ADSL provider you can get a rough idea of how good your line is. what speed do you get from zen?

    Re: BT Total Broadband Option 3, any good?

    Well, unfortunately i cant get bebroadband in my area nor ntl/cable or anything other than BT so im stuck with adsl!

    Im getting a steady 2.0mbps / 256kbps from my zen connection though. Its just abit expensive at £34.99 for 2meg and 100gb cap thats all. Apart from the price its not a bad service though.

    I could upgrade to max, and pay the same price as i do for 2meg, but then i would only get a 50gb cap and i regularly use alot more than this each month. Also with 8meg it would be even easier to reach this limit!

    Basically i would be happy with what i have now, just at a lower price!

    damn, I suppose that bt one does look like a good option for you. but 18 months.. if be wont be enabled at your exchange for that period or any other good isp deal then might as well go bt.

    Re: BT Total Broadband Option 3, any good?

    BT was the first broadband ISP I used, and were reasonably reliable, about the same as Tiscali, who I use now and with whom I'm very satisfied. I dropped them over 2 yrs ago when they introduced ridiculous download caps on all their services, glad to see they've seen the light and offer a reasonable option for heavy users now. They will still throttle downloads, especially P2P, during peak periods, but any sensible user schedules this stuff to happen past midnight anyway.

    BTW, if you're out and about a lot, BT's roaming Openzone WiFi system is quite an attractive extra.
    [Edit]Whoops! Or it WAS! Just had a look at their website and it seems they've changed the T&Cs quite drastically over the past couple of months.

    Re: BT Total Broadband Option 3, any good?

    Do you have SKY TV?
    If so i can recommend them.

    2mb = Free
    8mb = £5 month
    16mb = £10 month
    (All as long as you have any SKY TV Package).

    Reliable, pretty quick and totally unlimited.

    Im about 3km from my exchange and get between 6-9mb down and 625kb up.
    My old house was 1.3km and used to get between 12-15mb down and 625kb up.

    Doesnt matter what time of day either. Speed is always constant 24/7

    Re: BT Total Broadband Option 3, any good?

    hi
    i;ve got bt option 3.
    it's alright, if you need help you can call on a freephone number and either hold( which can take ages) or leave a message for them to call back.
    spped wise, excellent in the mornings, but eves are slow like other people have stated.
    try to get a better deal, 18month inc a few free months...it might work, but service is satisfactory.

    Re: BT Total Broadband Option 3, any good?

    Thanks for the replies When you say its slow in the evenings, does this include pings getting worse also? I can schedule downloads for overnight, but i do like using the net for online games during the evenings!

    Re: BT Total Broadband Option 3, any good?

    Pings no worse, and gaming is fine. Its other things that can get slow, ie file downloads run at 80k/sec instead of 160-250 etc.

    Re: BT Total Broadband Option 3, any good?

    Bt have offered me the WORST customer service I have had from any company EVER in recent days.

    To the point where I was snapping.... worse than tiscali, aol, ntl, sky.

    Useless.

    They slow all connections down between 5pm and 11pm.
    Its CFW that did it when they took over.
