I am about to order sky HD and were wondering what people though of Sky Broadband? I am also interested if anyone has managed to have the price of the sky box reduced (£300?), by either ordering certain bundles (phone, inet etc) or by simply insisting that 300 is quite pricey for a sky box. I think my parents have been customers for 15 years and have heard some reports of getting reduced installations etc.

Not the quickest but still very good for a tenner a month.
I used to live much much closer to the exchange and my connection was always 14mb+ 24/7
I live over 5 km from the exchange and I`m getting about 2.5-3 meg most of the time and I`m happyuncapped too which is nice.
I got Sky + installed for 50 quid box included which was nice
if uve been with sky tv a while then theyll discount it accordingly, i was offered it for £199 for being with them over 6 years (still too much tho after all theres a extra £10 a monthcharge for it to)
If you take sky talk and sky tv at comet the box is £99 at the min

I'm a similar position, the folks on 1Mb BT broadband at the moment, which is adaquate (bit slow at time bearing in mind there are 5 pc's in the house) but they are considering flicking to the basic sky tv/phone/bband service.
I wondered if anyone had any comments or experiences (good or bad) with this type of switch from services provided by different companies compared to the 'all in' type methodology.

Hmm, that does concern me, I've also a decent draytek (vigor 2800+)
The reason I need to use this is for a printer which i need networked and doesn't have a network port. The router allows a virtual ip to be set to the printer port and allows printing from any of the pc's in the house.
I also need both wired (for gaming, and the 3 pc's without wireless) and wireless for the two laptops which need to be able to move about.
Do you have a link to the Netgear router in question? How do they force you to use theirs? would they know if you changed the router?
The router does do wireless and wired so thats not a problem.
They force you to use it by the username and password being stored in the router and being so far impossible to get out of it.
Its in the TOS that you will use their equipment and breach would be bad.
People are trying to find a way of getting the details out of the router. The earlier Sky routers where possible to get the details out of using Address insertion methods but this doesnt work on the new ones.
Its not too bad a router.
Does your printer use the usb port on the draytek? There are usb printer servers that can be bought pretty cheaply

The New Netgear router never shipped. It had many many faults so they scrapped the idea.
They changed to the Sagem one.
I have the other Netgear one and its great. The range for the Wifi is VERY impressive aswell.
IF thats the case why do I have one of the new netgear ones?

I would willingly sign a disclaimer waiving my write to technical support (for router based issues!) if they would let me have a username and password for my router!
Another concern is that I need to be able to instantiate a VPN, both software and hardware based for work and I know a number of routers don't support this.
Anyone got any VPN experience over sky?
