    I Need Help

    most of you know this....

    but anyways.....

(and i apologise for the excessive use of periods, full stops and dots....)

So, recently i bought an Xbox 360, my sole source of entertainment, other than sky tv, 2 ex patriot brothers, the english,Celtic Football Club, and the friday night pool tournament.

Being out of work for 4 months now, i have ran a social experiment, Sky TV provides as much entertainment as the previous 5 channels did during daytime TV with the added bonus of seeing Oprah in High Def

    not something i reccommend.

The 2 brothers provide entertainment on a periodic basis, like every year and a half or so, and i love them dearly, but living vicariously through them is vastly overrated.

The English are always worth a laugh tho..

Celtic now face Barca, so loving them like i do, ummmm, thats europe out the window and i have just lost the friday night pool tournament.

So, i turn to my Trusty XBOX 360. the saviouir of my mental state, THE ELITE, nonetheless of xbox gaming. I have Halo3, Oblivion, Pro Evo 2008 etc etc.,

And, i move it up stairs, next to my beloved PC, and a mile away from the router it used to connect to Xbox live, thinking, that i can now connect it through my PC< use the wireless USB dongle to the router and all will be well

what follows is 3 weeks of absolute networking hell

I would love to blame Vista, i would, but it dont work in XP either, hence my post

    http://forums.hexus.net/news/126549-...ml#post1294516

Vista i like, although some info is lacking.

I have a crossover cable, about 15 other rj 45 cables, a 360, 5 pc's (incliuding 2 i built, 2 laptops and an oldie from PCWORLD), the help of a damn good friend ( that helped build the 2 i kinda built), 2 usb wireless dongles, a netgear cable wireless router, a netgear 834G ADSL router( in use) AND NO WAY TO GET THE 360 ONLINE. It will take files and so on from the pc's etc etc, but won't connect through the USB Wireless adaptor ( on my comp ) no matter which way i set it up.

I now await my MS wireless adaptor,. costing 54.99 GBP ( all other USB adaptors costing sub £20) with baited breath..

and a hammer if anyone shows me a solution that will actiually work....

Violence and Lubrication is the solution to fixing everything, if it still doesn't work, you need more lubrication.

    Re: I Need Help

You have probably already tried this, and it may not work with wireless USB dongles, but have you tried bridging the wireless connection and LAN on the PC? The way I worked it where I live was that I had a wireless router, but my 2 mates in another room, only 1 of them had a wireless card. So they got a crossover cable, and connected the 2 PCs together. I then bridged the LAN and wireless connection on one of the PCs. The result was that that wireless-less PC could see my router via the other PC.

However, I believe for bridging to work, you need some sort of hardware compliance on the NICs, which a USB dongle may not have.

Do what I do, google ICS (Internet connection sharing), pretty much connect the 360 up to a pc that has a connection to the internet wether that be wired or wireless, I cant remember exactly how you do it, but it works for me.

    Re: I Need Help

yep Steve, i am missing my halo fix..

and yep guys, tried those connections every which way i can, consistently getting errors and crashing and a nasty bluescreen bug once, given up now tbh.

Gerrard, that hardware compliance thing may well be the thng thats preventing it, wish i had nabbed the pci card out the 2nd machine now.

    ahh well
