    Question Ethernet port

    Hello!
I'm having problems with my computer.
    My ethernet port isn't working.
I have gone into diagnostics and it is "error 28"
I'm not too good with computers, so i dont know what i have to do.
    I've tried downloading drivers...
    but that hasnt worked..
unless im not using the right drivers...
    HELP??

    Re: Ethernet port

Honestly I'm not going to be able to help solve this - but for anyone who would be able to they'll probably need some mode info about your system. Motherboard, network card (if any), version of windows (which I assume it is) etc.

Sorry I couldn't have been of more help,

    Temp

    Re: Ethernet port

Probably a silly suggestion but if its an onboard lan have you thought about checking that active and setup correctly in bios?

What model of motherboard are you using, and also what operating system are you also using?

    Re: Ethernet port

as long as the PC is more than 6 months old

to try a different set of drivers, download a Linux liveCD. Burn, insert into problematic PC, reboot.

a Live CD won't affect the underlying system (unless you "install")

Linux is pretty good about drivers nowadays - if it is working (there will probably also be an LED above the ethernet connection) then you know it's your current software, if not probably the card itself.

I like ubuntu (as do many others)

you must have some form of internet access to post - so I presume that a download is practical.

    Re: Ethernet port

Yes indeed usually putting in a LiveCD (I recommend Gentoo) and checking up will reveal if it's hardware or software.
You never know with Windows... (well you can actually but it's a bit hard to get all the thing through)
