    Re: O2/ Be Outtage

Got this a few days after you started this thread. Funny thing is I didn't notice anything major.
Either my wireless is always ****ty and the actual speed never sunk below it or my line has been fine all this time.

    Re: O2/ Be Outtage

I don't know if its just my imagination or for real.....but when I was with BT, my router said download connection was circa 1.5Mbs and Upload circa 0.5Mbs

However, web pages opened pretty fast

Now with O2 8Mbs and router (DG834GT with latest firmware) says download speed circa 7.5Mbs and Upload 1.2Mbs but pages seems to take longer to open both on IE and Firefox

Any ideas? Don't mean to hijack this thread but it O2/BE performance related.

    Re: O2/ Be Outtage

Slow Browsing is usually down to DNS servers either slow or unavailable. you could try setting them to something else manually on your PC, OpenDNS seems to be a popular alternative on the BE forums.

Use OpenDNS. This cured the problem for me on my Be connection when I was having similar sort of problem.

Rather than setting it on the router I set it up on my individual laptops as I was having similar problems with my T-Mobile 3G connection too.

    Re: O2/ Be Outtage

Will try openDNS when I get home todaybut would really prefer to use the ISPs DNS servers.

Do you use it with an Open DNS account? Can't see the benefit but they say its "like buying a Porsche and having it stuck in first gear"

    Hmmm...

yeap, at these prices they've got to take shortcuts somewhere and at least its just the dns which can easily be overridden.

exactly, as an o2 payg customer anyway i pay £10 for up to 16mb and my line is capable of around 10mb. compared to my last isp (pipex) i was paying £25 for 3mb. so choice of £25 without probs or £10 and i just have to change dns!

    Re: O2/ Be Outtage

Okay I'm using the Open DNS servers now

Tried the BE forums one and it couldn't connect me to google

Iknow the download speeds are not affected but I posted mine nonetheless just because I can
