It is normal practice to run enough RJ45 outlets for phones AND data so ports are NOT shared for both, although this can be done. It makes no difference what wiring standard is used for the network at the cable above uses one pair only and if used in the kit form is supplied with the correct RJ45 to BT converter to supply the ring pin for older phones.
Very true - of course the 568A/568B standards were laid down when 10Mb/s was the norm andd 100Mb/s was advanced. - the structured system starts failing when 4 pairs are used for data. (good rule is when one cable is required, double or treble it - for the future - much cheaper to run it all in together than to go back and retro-fit)

Too true-if only customers would listen! The number of times we go back because they shaved a few £££ off the original quote by cutting back on the number of ports only to return months later and retro fit more!!

I think cable runs are the most under rated area of a network. I worked in a place where they run cables through the loft space and it was a like a jumbled mess of wires.

I have also worked in a place where they got a company in to do the cables..... all I can say is WOW!

It was like a work of art.

Rather ironically in the early days of CAT6 before it was fully ratified some manufacturers were telling installers not to lay cables neatly as the crosstalk was worse when installed that way!! A messy looking install performed better!! Thankfully this has long been sorted.

Agree with one of the other posters. Built an extension that included a study. Only ran 1 CAT 5 cable.. its a real pain in the backside to work out how to pull in 3 more without making a mess

On the plus side I found world wide web .clarity.it a handy place to buy bits from and some useful pages on telephone wiring
