    Best Wireless Modem Router

Want the Ports to be Gigabit (need 2 min), to support 802.11n and older standards, decent security, reasonably easy to set up and above all to be reliable. Price is not an issue, but I'd rather spend £100 than £200.

Current beastie is beginning to get a little tetchy after serving faithfully 24/7 for the last 4 years and I want to buy a replacement pdq before it gives up the ghost.

    Re: Best Wireless Modem Router

This is worse than I thought. The only 802.11n gigabit modem router I can find on sale is the Belkin N1 Vision. This suffers the usual Belkin problems of dropped connections and non-existent support. What's up with the UK? There are loads of suitable modem routers on sale in the US.

    Re: Best Wireless Modem Router

I guess there is little demand for Gigabit ports on a SOHO router as the limiting factor for outbound connections. Best solution IMHO (Unless you are going to spend large amounts on professional access router) is to build a gigabit network with sepqarate gigiabit switches, and then link that off to a port on the router for external connections. A 5 port basic gigiabit switch can be bought for under £30 if you shop around.

    Re: Best Wireless Modem Router

Broadband is no faster in the US, but from what I can see every manufacturer has at least one model which has these specs. In the UK we have the router model, but not the modem router one. Perhaps there's just not enough of a market to make a UK version. The Belkin one only seems to exist because BT wanted a product to sell. Why (TF) didn't they pick Linksys or D-Link to partner with?

Oh well, I may do what you say or buy a separate modem as there are several Gb/802.11n routers around.

    Re: Best Wireless Modem Router

Yeah, that's a good router and cheaper than the D-Link DIR-855 (and better looking). I just need to find a good modem to pair with it. Is the AM200 any good?

    Re: Best Wireless Modem Router

Netgear look to be getting to the point of a Wirless N router with Gigabit switch buitl in. And as soon as it is out I'll be getting it.

They have these for those who have a ADSL Modem already, so the ADSL2+ version shouldn't be far behind... And it's black, which is always a bonus.
