Laptop Disconnects Everyone Else Using The Router!

    Hello,

What I've got here is a very annoying problem! We have a number of computers in the house hold, and all work fine together and when connected to the internet. That is, until my sister decides to boot up her laptop, thus disconnecting everyone else from the internet! Sometimes it's impossible to get back on - it doesn't find the router, other times all I have to do is reconnect, and sometimes I have to go and switch the router off and on again - the solution to all problems!

Anyway... this is very annoying and happens a lot, it can also cause random DC's. Anyone know why this may be?

    Cheers,
    Steven

A Belkin something... It doesn't say the model number on it. I'm on it with my laptop at the moment, which never causes any problems at all.

on her laptop, has she disabled the network port?

if i do that on my PC then restart it, it instantly crashes the router and a reset is required.. if i then re-enable my network then restart, no crashes whatsoever.. happened about 5 times and this is the only common link (i know of) between each time. could be whats happening with your sisters laptop..

don't ask for any technical explanation why it happens, it just does

How would I check to see and enable the network port?

borrow her laptop and have a look in network connections in control panel and see if the Local Area Connection says 'disabled'. if it does then just re-enable it - right click the icon, select re-enable - plug it into the router and see if it crashes, if it doesn't then this was the cause.

if it still crashes, i am out of ideas, best ask someone else..

Re: Laptop Disconnects Everyone Else Using The Router!

make sure the laptop is set to use DHCP to receive network addresses - i suspect it's hard-coded to the same address to the router, hence kicking it off the network

Following on from previous post, is your DHCP server set to allow enough address to be allocated? Has a similar problem recently where one device kept pushing another off the network, had to set allocationg to a higher number.
