    The Internet, with phoneline

hey guys after virgin told me they cant do my new flat ive been looking around at adsl, theres loads out there! they all require a bt line though which is annoying as thats 10.50 a month

but what about these deals that give you homephone aswell? i was looking at a deal through the postoffice which sounds pretty good which is broadband and phone except when you goto check availability you need a landline number of the place, thats fine except we dont have one! so how do these deals work? do i get a line from bt and then one of these 'inclusive line rental' packages will take over it for me? its very confusing!

Yeah, basically they assume you have a phone line already, so you need to get a line installed by BT first. Once thats done you can then organise the ADSL on it.

    Re: The Internet, with phoneline

The only thing I can think of is something like 3/t-mobile/orange's/etc 3G broadband services in conjunction with a mobile phone?

Not as quick, but you don't have to get BT involved..

The major downside is it'll be slower, and probably more expensive..

    Re: The Internet, with phoneline

Does the flat have any phone line at all? If not, you are going to have to get that installed, no matter who you the calling plan provider is.

Ultimately it will be BT Outreach that do it, either as a subcontractor to BT retail, or whover your service provider will be.

    This is one such provider

    http://www.directsavetelecom.co.uk/n...hone-line.html

but I post it as an example, not as an endorsement - but wherever you get the line installed, it will be quite expensive.

If there is already a line installed and set up in the flat (even if the line has been de-activated) you can choose whoever you like as the provider, they will arrange for the line to be re-activated - for which there may be a charge. IF BT re-activate the line because you are going to get a voice call plan from them, there is no charge.

Whatever you do, if you access internet over a phone line (ADSL) you will need to pay a line rental.
