    Cheap ADSL questions

Is cheap ADSL, as supplied by Bulldog and Freedom 2 Surf, as good as it seems? Or is there a hidden cost or something else I should know about?

Would be good if someone who is using these providers could rest my worries,

    Thanks

    Steve

Using 1MB Bulldog Alltime here, their service is excellent to say the least although there has been the odd time where their DNS has gone down but other than that there's no reason why you shouldnt sign up with them

Oh and theres no hidden cost

excellent, cheers for the feedback. I am currently on BT 512 which is nearly £30,00 a month, for another £10 I could get Bulldog 2MB line.

    Cheers again

bulldog alltime 2000 and primetime 2000 ( 2 lines ) user here. I run my own DNS servers so no issues there and the speeds are awesome

If you read www.adslguide.org.uk forums their is a few people whinging about slow speeds etc, but that sounds like its down to BT and their VP provisioning and a few IPstream and Datastream issues.

    Hope this info helps

    certainly does. Thanx.

I've read somewhere that if you hit your upload limit then it dramatically reduces your download speed??? is this right? Not that it matters as I'll be routing my ADSl through my Linux box...

lol I was with BTOpenworld from 1998 ( well BTInteractive as it was called on the trials ) After that we stayed with BTO and had a royal nightmare. Switched to Nildram on 2000 and in November I got the bulldog accounts setup

The real scary thing is ... I want faster than 2 Mb now I use my friends 512 lines and also the network connection at work, and I'm sat there shouting " ffs hurry the f**k up" when opening pages and also downloading patches and updates

I'm turning into a speed junkie ( thats LINE speed - nothing else folks )

Must go - think I'll go play with the 100 Mb link we have in the office
