I'll let you know Jay, by tonight (if I get my bum off of Warsow). Am at work right now and only read this thread this morning.

I was thanking Madduck for coming up with useful information and thanking Moogle for the hours he has plugged in trying to help the past 2 days.

Re: Netgear DG834GUK - Reduced Downstream Rate

    OK update.

This router is totally screwy (relative to my ISP/ADSL line).

After farting around for days I got no where with inconsistant sync rates at ANY noise margin level set by DMT. Updated to latest firmware tonight and this is the best it will do...

Drop of speed and less SnR margin.

What the hell is going on (and yes I was going down in steps as 100% gave me 576kbps!!!).

Help would be appreciated if known.

EDIT: Remember the linksys was providing me with over 2700kbps downstream with 9dB SnR

    Update...
OK, so here are some screen grabs from this afternoons/evenings test with trellis and inner pair on.

This is trellis on and nothing selected for inner or outer pair.

What can I do now or do I have to wait?

I've got an 834G and my line syncs with a 6dB SNR margin. This margin to some extent is dictated by the backend ISP hardware as that works out and sets what it thinks is your ideal SNR margin for a stable connection.

Well that is fine and dandy for you but doesn't quite explain why my linksys provided me with 2700kbps downstream with 9dB noise and the DG834Gv4 can only give me 1440kbps downstream at just under 10dB. Even then, re-syncing doesn't give me consistant values. It fluctuates wildly.

I wasn't boasting, I was merely offering info, don't know why I bothered TBH.

Ahh Moogle persuaded me to install the DGTeam custom firmware and it's doing a better job than the DMT tool!

Cheers Moogle! Though it seems the exchange is giving me a stupidly high base/default SnR margin of 20dB. Will query ADSL24 about this.

I tried G.DMT and I had a high SNR margin too, plus it reconnected fast.

I think maybe your Linksys had a different mode that worked with your ISP which gave you a lower SNR margin.

  14. Received thanks from:

Hrm...well I set it to "multimode" or whatever the auto function is so even then it's still a high SnR. Unfortunately the switch on the Linksys is more or less completely dead so I can't check the settings anymore....unless there is a way I can access it (no there is no wifi).

Anyway, I'll play around tonight and see what else I can do

BTW if the sync rate is 2200kbps and the ip profile given is 1750, how much of that will be taken up in overhead? I am trying to work this out backwards from peak download/upload rates.

10-15% iirc. Contact ADSL24 I say cos they recommend it (the router) and it's not doing good.

Yeah only awkward bit is they want screen captures of 2 individual speed tests if putting a query through their ticket system regarding any speed issues. Though mine is more of a speed/router issue. I'll poke around the site some more, else it'll have to wait till I get home from work.
