Question ADSL DNS nightmare... I think it's DNS anyhoo

righty. My problem is that I can't acces www.krisl.net Now I wouldn't be too bothered, but that's where all my "stuff" resides, and the server upon which my email lives. Everyone else I've asked can see it, except me. I can access ANYWHERE else but that site.

    I've tried a ping to www.krisl.net and I get..

    pinging www.krisl.net [195.10.122.20]

reply from 195.10.119.90: Destination net unreachable
The IP in bold is apparently my ADSL gateway according to the admin interface for my router (D-Link DSL 504).

My DNS is set to 195.10.102.11 and 195.10.102.12 and proxy DNS is turned off. I don't know what else to try tbh

You trying to access it from the internal network or from the outside world?

Destination net unreachable would suggest you've no route to the server.

Tracert it and see where it stops.

Is 195.10.119.90 a single static IP from your ISP? and then your running a private range behind the router?

If you're using a private subnet and NAT is active on the router, it's most likely dropping your requests as spoofed, and you will have to use a HOSTS file where you have the internal IP of the server on all the clients.

I have this same issue at home with my Netgear ADSL router - it would be ideal if the router manufacturers cater for this by having a tab in the web interface to have "DNS override" values for given domains/URLs, maybe one day...

HOSTS is a text file that goes in %SYSTEMROOT%\System32\Drivers\etc and you need a line with the format:

    IP address [space/tab] hostname

    e.g.
    192.168.123.88 www.krisl.net

it stops at 195.10.119.90 - which my router says is it's internet gateway NAT is.. err disabled I think.. have to check when I get home.

EDIT: It's sorted now - I restarted the router without NAT running, then turne dit back on and kicked the thing again. It's resolving away now
