Re: Does bethere unlimited/value have interleaving on?

I think Fastpath seems to disable those HEC/ECC checking, which on my line (very erratic in the evening) means frequent disconnect :S

    Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,196 / 10,182
    Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 7.5 / 13.5
    SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 9.5 / 10.0
    FEC Errors (Up/Down): 1 / 757
    CRC Errors (Up/Down): 1 / 1
    HEC Errors (Up/Down): 100 / 1

I normally sync at 17Mbps and everyday around 8pm~10pm it cuts and resync at 10Mbps. (FEC/HEC can't remember which one, count goes up to 50000 before it cuts)

Sorry my bad. Yes thats KB/sec - Im not using the be box and what I stated wasnt an annoyance, it was a rejoiceful statement with an exclamation at the end. Its all good for now.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Fastpath disables FEC Down Errors, you still have some which suggests Fastpath isn't enabled, with your line attenuation you should be able to have a 24Mbps connection... your SN margin is very high for some reason, possibly to compensate for whatever internal line issues you might have.

    My stats from the bebox
    Uptime: 6 days, 10:59:43
    DSL Type: G.992.5 annex A
    Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,334 / 19,170
    Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/kB]: 0.00 / 0.00
    Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 18.0
    Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 11.5 / 19.0
    SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 7.0 / 7.5
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / BDCM
    Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
    Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
    Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
    Loss of Link (Remote): 0
    Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 15 / 0
    FEC Errors (Up/Down): 256 / 0
    CRC Errors (Up/Down): 256 / 23,076
    HEC Errors (Up/Down): 358 / 19,999

Notice FEC Errors down is 0.
Also if you have any local "Loss of" errors it suggests you have an internal line problem, I had some but I fixed it and now its constantly 0.

I don't have any Loss of * error, but everyday in the evening there is ALWAYS a short burst of interference that is about 2~3 minutes which my modem will drop connection and reconnect at 10Mbps. I normally sync at 17Mbps (Stable) / 18Mbps (Normal) / 19Mbps (Turbo profile).

I find that P2P speed is quite erratic if I use the turbo profile, the 17Mbps stable profile is actually faster. I'll give fast-path a go tonight and see if there is any effect, as I remember a lot of programs are not happy with packet loss.

Re: Does bethere unlimited/value have interleaving on?

Fastpath is only recommended if you have a stable connection, if you get regular line drops for no rason, then best to get that switched off, I don't use the member profiles to change those settings I use the ticket system, the Gaming mode is fastpath and that doesn't actually work yet.
I keep mine on normal (6dB) and fastpath, I think I can get more with 3dB (optimise for speed) but I'm happy with what I have.

You can see I have 6 days uptime, I game often and overnight I use P2P, I notice the Bebox is fairly warm like most routers, so make sure its got enough room for ventilation, I've stood mine up for better heat loss by convection.

Those FEC/CRC/HEC errors are no big problem if they occur, nobody gets 0 for them (except FEC down on fastpath/non-interleaved)

Re: Does bethere unlimited/value have interleaving on?

Here's some more stats to compare...

    Link Information

    Uptime: 0 days, 4:54:42
    Modulation: G.992.5 Annex A
    Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,386 / 15,504
    Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [GB/GB]: 1.08 / 4.13
    Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 18.5
    Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 14.5 / 30.5
    SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 3.0 / 4.0
    Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / µ
    Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
    Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
    Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
    Loss of Link (Remote): 0
    Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 147 / 0
    FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 492,043
    CRC Errors (Up/Down): 35,015 / 192
    HEC Errors (Up/Down): 8,599 / 163

I'm very happy with be. They are very flexible about changing packages to see if you get improvements. Being able to set fastpath and Margin is great too.
The bebox is a bit flakey if it gets warm, so I keep it on the floor where it's cooler and standing on its end as per the last poster.

Also, I don't think they've ever had to use their fair use policy. I had 600 Gig down and 85 Gig up last month!

I don't understand how you guys are getting such good connections on such low SN margins?
Anything much lower than 9 normally results in disconnections, so how are you guys surviving on 3 ~ 6?

Better routers I suppose? My DG834GT holds a 0.5dB SNR for days so I'm happy.

Re: Does bethere unlimited/value have interleaving on?

Not sure, but I think it depends on other things too. Perhaps attenuation and power in conjunction with SNRm have something to do with it. Someone at the Be forums (or the unofficial ones) would know for sure.
I've always had mine set at 3 even before you could change it in the control panel, I used DMT Tool to fix it lower. Stability is generally good I often have up-time of a week or so, as long as I don't let the router overheat.

Source? by default my connection on Be was 7-8dB

I've held a 5.5-8dB/non-interleaved connection for 9 days and counting now

Re: Does bethere unlimited/value have interleaving on?

Hmm, this requires more research, haha.

As far as I'm aware, SNR isn't something you 'choose' or 'fix'....it's the signal:noise ratio....as in, "how much CLEAR signal am I getting on the line, compared to noise?"

    Clicky for Wikipedia explanation

I was getting a ton of issues with my line recently, so I've done a fair amount of research into this. 9dB seems to be the lowest you want, so you guys have completely baffled me!

Re: Does bethere unlimited/value have interleaving on?

What you're actually setting is the Signal to Noise Ratio Margin (SNRm really, not SNR)
Most ISP's, well the big ones at least don't let you change it.
Be were very tolerant of customers using DMT Tool to "hack" it http://www.kitz.co.uk/routers/DMTv7.htm They just put the same ability to change it on the customer control panel. And the fastpath option too.

You are right to try it at 9 if you're having stability issues though. Lower settings can give higher speeds but only if you have sufficiently low attenuation to keep the line stable. This is from (foggy old) memory, so I may be wrong.

The default at Be (and maybe others?) is 6. You can set it to 3 for a possible speed boost, or to 9 to help with stability.

They really know their stuff at the be forums, and also at http://www.beforum.co.uk/ they'll be able to give you more thorough advice if you need it.

Ok, so if I'm running on an SNR between 15dB and 17dB, do you reckon it'd be safe to turn interleaving off?

Re: Does bethere unlimited/value have interleaving on?

Are you sure you're reading the details correctly... SN Margin isn't SNR, in this thread we're referring to SN Margin. A value of 15dB is just crazy high, I'd say impossibly high.
Be* has 3dB, 6dB (default) and 9dB as options, I'm certain they do not offer anything in-between though some routers allow any figure.

Re: Does bethere unlimited/value have interleaving on?

I had a Downstream Margin of 0db yesterday according to my router - although it does change between 0 - 6. How odd.

SHould i take off the phoneline faceplate now or wait till the end of next week?
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
