    Changing IP address

Ok, not sure if this is the right place, but it looks as if it is, if it's not, please move it, ta.

Anyways, i'm just wondering if there's any way i can change my IP? I'm on 1Mbit NTL broadband, i've been to their website, but cant seem to find anything about IPs on there. I know that every 6 months or so my IP changes anyway, but i cant rember the last time, and i want to change it now. So is there any way i can go about doing it myself or do i have to fone up NTL and have a "good reason" for wanting to change it?

NTL are dynamically assigned IP's. Leave your modem off for around 24hrs and you'll probably end up with a different IP

    You could try an

    ipconfig /release all

    and then

    ipconfig /renew all

in a command line, but it would probably just renew the same IP.

na that wont work im afraid NTL are bu**ers for not being able to mod anything! I had them for over a year (my darkest hour) and found them to be very conservative of what you could change. You will just have to switch it off for a few hours and hope for the best, mind you when i tried that somtimes it didnt work everytime, just luck really.

I quick way that Ive found on blueyonder and my router setup...

    1) make up a random mac address in hexadecimal
    2) register this fake mac address in BY selfcare
    3) log into the the router and get it to spoof the fake mac address
    4) reboot the router, the switch off cable modem for 5 mins, switch back on

And... you should have a new ip addy, this has worked for me 5 times upto now.

Be aware the mac address change may take longer than 5 minutes for the cable modem/blueyonder to recognise.

NOTE: if NTL use the same system, the above should work just as well.

your ntl modem has an ethenet port and a usb port. switch from one to the other, volia. (don't swap them arround more than once in ~12hrs (not quite sure) or your modem will be barred for awhile.)

That is very strange i just had a IP chamge this morning lol, but if ever i want to do it i just turn my modem off for a bit or just swap from Ethenet to USB seems to do the trick for me.
